Ellen's Montecito Mansion, Estate of the Day

Like Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres has a lavish Montecito getaway house but unlike Oprah, Ellen is on the move. She and her partner Portia Di Rossi have put their Montecito home on the market. This beautiful home was built in 1926 by George Washington Smith who designed many lovely homes in the Santa Barbara, Calif. area. The house was renovated a few years back before Ellen bought it less than six months ago. The estate has a four-bedroom main house that includes a 1,300-square-foot master suite, a dining room with a curved stairway, a wine cellar, billiards room, a library and an office. The property also has a guesthouse, a studio, a tennis court and a pool/spa. According to Berg Properties, Ellen also recently sold a 20-acre estate at 2710 Roundup Road in Santa Ynez, Calif., for $3,050,000 and sold a 119.8-acre agricultural property in Santa Ynez for an undisclosed price. Is the house worth $9 million more than it was just six months ago? Probably not but it's lovely just the same. The home is listed at $24 million. After the jump, check out the staging on the home: They set out lemonade in one shot and watermelon in one another.

Absolutely stunning -- I seldom like an interior and an exterior, together, but this is lovely. Heck, I'd take the guest house, and be happy!

I feel relaxed just seeing this. Nice, slightly rustic but minimal interiors without being minimalistic. Beautiful natural light flooding in and gorgeous grounds. AHHHH so relaxing.

It is lovely but somewhat cold looking with all the white. Looks like it was painted "spec vanilla" for resale. I cannot imagine upping the price that much after six months and someone willing to buy it for that much increase unless they want to say they bought the house Ellen Degeneres lived in. (I wonder if she actually lived there.) Ellen is known for liking to flip houses and she has been quite successful doing so. Probably will be again cause someone will want it. My impression of Ellen was that she was an "aw shucks" kind of girl but she obviously is pretty good at that simple image stuff while living in the land of grandeur. I agree with another comment that the guest house is where I would want to live - it looks much more lovable.

the huge price increase of 6 months smells and looks alot like GREED to me!
hardly a virtue in any community.

Apparently you are not knowledgeable about the Santa Barbara/Montecito real estate values. A 1100 sqft 1950's fixer upper is close to $1M. One pays dearly to live in one of the most desireable locations on the Pacific Coast.

The home is very beautiful. I wonder what home she will get next . Must be something really good for her to part with this one

Who'd want to? Truly, there are far more places in the world where the men and women are REAL and not living in some delusional fantasy land.

I love how open the house is and not overly decorated. Lots of space. I could be happy there, especially with the beautiful grounds. I really love the front porch, the wicker furniture I would take in a heartbeat!

The home and grounds are beautiful, but if someone wants a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo overlooking the intracoastal in Sunny Isles Beach (Miami), Fl.
for only 450 Thousand dollars write soon.

It's beautiful, but my condo in Miami Beach is on the market for 80% less and just as beautiful.

This place is beautiful. With all the land and where it's located,$24 doesn't sound so bad. Wherever Ellen lives next,I wish her and Portia well. Ellen had to fight her way to the top and she deserves all good things to come to her.

All I can say is " I wish I was Ellens girlfriend" Nice house and she is hot.
KEITH Apr 6th 2007 8:53PM
I don't understand, I don't see any carpet or rugs in the house for munching.

Here's the deal. 9 million more today than 6 months ago. Only an idiot would pay that in a soft real estate market or someone so rich that 9 million is like 9 bucks to the rest of us. I don't care where it is or who owned it, the market is down. Look at Britney Spears' house in Malibu. She's had to reduce it twice and still noone wants it.

LOVE THE HOUSE AND EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. HER STYLE IS VERY RELAXED BUT STILL ELEGANT. I'D GIVE MY HUSBAND (NOT REALLY) TO LIVE IN IT! I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY ELLEN WOULD EVEN CONSIDER SELLING AND MOVING. I HOPE TO GET TO SEE THE NEW HOUSE WHEN SHE DOES MAKE THE MOVE. I SIMPLY CAN'T IMAGINE IT BEING MORE INVITING AND LOVELY.
