Bulletproof Raincoat
This is one jacket that should have made the live-like-Jack-Bauer gear list because the only thing that can get into it is you. The long black trench is bulletproof, stab-proof and, of course, weatherproof, so no bullets, knives, "hypodermic needles, ice picks, knives and broken bottles " will penetrate it. Think of it as stylish full-body armor. This makes it the sort of jacket that you would want if you regularly tour through war-zones or exceptionally hostile neighborhoods late at night, although it will certainly give you a sense of security no matter where you go. It features two large front pockets and a high-rise collar to block the chill, as well. Price: $2,000.

I think it's awful how people say stupid things about this hip-hop/rap stuff. It is music. When you grow up in the ghetto, you can't control or stop that. You were raised there and that's a part of you. Some don't know any better. I bet everyone that has posted on here listens and enjoys rock. Well a whole lot of rock artists do drugs, but no one says anything about them. If you grew up in the ghetto and all of your friends were there you wouldn't ever ditch them, they can't just bail on their roots. It is a part of you. Have any of you that are bashing hip-hop/rap ever heard of rapper getting killed lately? No. The only ones in a long time were Biggie and Tupac. I think Warren Garrison should go to h*** for saying that's 2 down, how many more til their all dead. What is wrong with you? Tupac and Biggie were great men. If you listen to their lyrics they have real and true meaning. Tupac does a lot more than Biggie, but still. People look up to both of them, and you bash them. Tupac raps about heaven and God, but you diss him. He also raps about better days and peace. I guess you don't want that. I just think it is sad that people say this. A war is going on, we should be together, not talking about killing each other. And then most americans get pissed when other countries stereotype us and say we are and greedy. Well don't stereotype others if you hate being part of a stereotype. I'm sorry for this, but I just think we should all come together as one instead of doing what is happening above on here. Just talk about the dang coat and if you like it and think it is a good idea. Not about who should wear this. Some people would find comfort in this coat, especially if they are trying to make it and work in a dangerous area and they have to walk back from work in the dark. I think the price should be lowered, and I think they should have a longer version also.

wooooooooooooooow. before i get to the racist comments, i WILL say that i wonder how much this thing weighs. and i'm with the author of the article, it belongs on the spy type. like a rapper would even LOOK at a raincoat! no matter how protective it is, it would just be a whack ass thing to do. not fashionable enough. even in the rain. :p and as someone who lives in the midwest, we get all types here. got the rednecks, ghetto rappers, slutty pop stars, etc. and EVERY SINGLE GENRE has its bad apples. i mean country is KNOWN for having the easiest songs to right: my wife left me, the dog died, my truck got repoed. or my personal favorite - the song about killing somone for having sex with someone else. listen to reba mcintire's "the day the lights went out in georiga" or "fancy." pretty cruddy stuff. pop music is just as bad. those dancing songs have some very subtle sexual lyrics. rock music has been known to make kids go shoot up schols! you see where i'm going with this? at least in rap music, they are pretty point blank about it. pun intended. so please stop hating. music in general has it's bad side. NO ONE is immune. oh, and for the record, rap music is being bought by bored, suburbian white kids. not the black kids from the hood. think about it! there are more whites in the US then black, therefore, after saturating the target base, they branch out b/c they have to make the record labels even more money. and white kids will buy just about ANYTHING to be considered cool. it's not racist. it's not stereotypical. it's the truth. now THAT is sad!

I find the hip-hop/gangbanger reactions to this armor coat very interesting, if not entirely unexpected. It's sort of a natural segue from a defense against crime to crime itself and the hate that it engenders. Gangbanger violence is largely about respect. Unfortunately gangbangers, whatever their color are either too ingorant or too stupid to tell the difference between respect and fear. Respect must be earned, which is difficult, but it often turns to love. Fear is easier to get, pop a cap in Shorty and you've got it, but it turns to hate. Sooner or later somebody's going to pop a cap in you, and so it goes until you realize that ignorance is not something to be admired, go back to school and learn the difference between fear and respect, then act on that knowledge. Do that and there'll be no more need for bullet proof coats and hardened Escalades.

who the hell still wears raincoats in 2007?
BD Mar 9th 2007 1:42PM
No one here has asked the obvious question. Where do I get one? BTW, some states have legislation pending, & some have laws on the books against civilians buying, owning and/or wearing bullet resistant clothing. The fact that high-profile executives, celebrities and politicians could benefit from this type of clothing, you dopeheads only want to talk about hip-hoppers, rappers, gangstas, and other idiots who would want this raincoat. I'll bet the Secret Service and the FBI would love this thing. Who is the manufacturer, and where can I get one?

I could care less, but I do want to say....The MAJORITY of murders are NOT by white people. Although, almost all serial killers are white...yes, that is true. Whites are psycho killers and blacks are savage killers.

Sahalia writes:"It is not used in IRAQ because it probably only protects against hand guns. Not automatic weapons."
If it will stop a handgun it will stop an assault rifle. The M16 is a .223' round, the AR-15 a 5.56mm (.218") round, most hand guns are 9mm or .38's. There are .22 handguns, asically the same size as the M16 and larger than the AR-15. Assualt rifle rounds are small for two reasons.
1. Small/lighter allows more ammo to be carried in small space less weight. This is important when your talking 30 or 50 rounds. Also miitary weapons are not designed to kill. The logic goes, if I kill one soldier that's one down, if I wound one, it takes two to carry him from the battle, thats 3 not fighting, plus it cost more for the enemy to care for a wounded, than a corpse.

A yo Warren yo azz need to get educated about rap and hip hop...we trade war stories with our lyrics.. we let people know what goes in the hood and in the rest of the states across the US cuz this aint paradise and i know better cuz im from South Central LA,.. yeah we throw up gang signs and talk about killing other fools cuz this aint no game..... but think about it, when have you heard about us shooting inside schools or blowing up buildings...bring any memories? this fools were country music lovers... so before you open yo mouth again make sure you got your facts legit cuz trust me you can be next target for talking out off line... oh and about the jacket that shit is tight but i wouldnt wear it

SurCentral has a point. If all blacks do is kill other blacks in the "game"....why are white people so concerned?
Tracy Mar 12th 2007 10:48AM
This is supposed to be about the coat and I have no idea how it got onto hip hop, which in turn means most BLACK MALE RAPPERS. I cannot believe that the first comment up here was related to hip hop culture, music, and rappers. Not all black people go about shooting other blacks, better yet other people...and all of U racist and ignorant people have the slightest idea of what our culture is about because I assume ur all white and ur stereotyping most black people. Yeah a majority of them make bad choices and are violent, but so are other races and cultures...besides, what is the race that usually goes into schools shooting their peers or other children....so if UR gonna use the race/culture card...think before U speak cause that's just damn ignorant and it pisses me off.

A spot where we can smoke in peace, and even though we G's
We still visualize places, that we can roll in peace

I got a spot for us all, so we can ball, at thug's mansion".....

Both the coat and the people making these comments, show what a sad world this is. Add those to the bull shit happening in this world and it's no wonder why our children grow up hating themselves and each other. It's time we put our differences aside and ban together to make this a better world. One that God could be proud of again. Just like the Slavery Issue I never had slaves and no one I know who is alive has. Let the past die and move on. Living in the past, doesn't help anyone. The world is changing and we need to change with it. It's called PROGRESS!!!
VAHoney Mar 9th 2007 2:44PM
HAHAHA This is funny to me. The coat is cute but I wouldn't want to wear it. The price for it is too high. I won't waste my time trying to explain or feed into this HipHop mess you people are saying. If that's how you feel than keep that sh*t to yourself. No all black people are like that. Thats like me saying all white people are racist. which isn't true either. Stick to the topic at hand and stop trying to bring in black people as the prime target.
JoAnn Mar 9th 2007 3:33PM
I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW THIS DISCUSSION ABOUT A RAINCOAT HAS TURNED INT0 MORAL AND CULTURAL ISSUES!!!
I, for one, would like to ask the inventor(s) some of the questions posed. I would also ask what the length is, how heavy it is, how warm it keeps the person wearing it, and so forth. As to the price, anything newly developed is always higher since the development/profit ratio would still not be in the black. For instance, look at digital cameras now; when they first came out they where extremely expensive. Now they are reasonably priced (compared to the quality available and the options available).
For instance; Why did these people come up with this idea??? The inventor(s) of this coat would be the ones to answer this question.
I cannot understand the audacity of the people assuming that it is for the drug dealers, gang members, and what have you!
Personally, I would think it was developed with personal safety in mind for WHOEVER deemed that their safety might be at risk or in danger. I would think it was developed for people who work in places of high risk, for instance. It might even have been developed for the military person in mind; but we do not know this without asking the actual person(s) who developed it!
Yes, I agree that the undesirables in today's society would think about ( and maybe actually) buying this product, BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN IT IS INTENED FOR THEM ALONE!!! It is just that whatever is on the market for personal safety would be considered by them also.
Next, as to why the government does not issue this product to our military people?
-- I would not know that answer without investigating and evaluating the product itself and comparing it to what is currently issued to them.
--I am the spouse of a retired army officer and a volunteer for the state guard in my state and have lived with the military way of life for over 20 years so I feel I can say my opinions for my answers. But they are only MY opinions.
--It is easy for civilians (as in people who have no connection to the military life) to say “Well this should be provided for our military members so why does the government not do it?”
--With all of the above said, this coat could be used by more than just the military.
--For instance, other government officials (police members, government officials of all types like judges, congressmen (and women), senators, etc.) Please don’t generalize or focus on only 1 or 2 types of people or things everyone.
--They could also be used for people who do disaster relief like the Red Cross does.
--(Remember Hurricane Katrina and the situations caused by it??)
The next topic I feel I need to say something to(simply because it was addressed):
--I appreciate the sentiment that these people make out of concern and support for our troops. Thank you for the concern and support. I know it is appreciated since I have talked to quite a few soldiers who have returned from the war on terror overseas. My son-in-law was injured severely over there also so I know from a personal stand point what the general feelings are of the troops over there. (Remember the news only covers what will sell in the papers and get attention on the television.)
-Most of us in the civilian world do not understand the military or their uniforms let alone their protective items. Even I do not understand the extensive array of items that are available to our troops and I have lived with the military way of life for over 20 years. This is simply because I have NEVER been in the actual military itself, I have just been married into it and in the volunteer unit I am with.
I will address the issue of people on this posting that are using this board to bash rappers/ hip-hoppers and generalize low income life.
--Personally, I do not like rap music. I was “turned off” of it years ago when it came out with all the negative things being said in clear and concise language.
--I also agree that pop/rock/country (basically just about ANY kind) music has the same messages said but only not as clearly stated.
--BUT, lately there has been changes going on in the music industry that the trend of the customers started. There is even CHRISTIAN rap now. That is actually a positive message going out to the people who listen to it. And I don’t even mind if my children (and I have 9 of them) listen to Christian Rap music.
- {And before anyone says anything about how I raise my children; it is my right and responsibility to teach my children values. But, once they are adults and out of my house I don’t have the right to dictate how they live their lives. I still retain my right to express my ideas; I just don’t have the right to expect to have them follow my ideas. As is only fitting since we live in the USA and this is guaranteed by the constitution.}
--I have several siblings that live in low income housing or the areas that generalize this type of feeling. This does not make them the type of people that deal drugs or are in gangs etc. I used to live in low income type housing when I was growing up even. My parents eventually were able to buy their own home though because they managed their money well and they had a goal to get out. But not everyone can do so. There are multiple problems involved with the people who are typical of low income housing. Please do not contribute to the problems these people have unless you are willing to help them in some way (and I don’t mean giving them money as that would not solve the problems they have, it would just stretch it out longer). Psychology classes at a college would be a good start for you if you wish to truly understand these people.
As to the inconsiderate people out there that have their volume turned up extremely loud with the big bass speakers installed; I consider it an infringement on my personal hearing space. It is even against the law in some areas. Not only that but they will lose their hearing fairly quickly. . Think how this will affect the person who plays the music so loud in the car. Experience is the greatest teacher that has ever existed and it is usually what the younger generation (the twenty-something and teenagers) will only listen to. But that is on average of the population, not all of the younger generation does this.
--It is not just the rap/hip-hop music people!! It is every type of music.
--The only reason people hear the loud “ghetto” music (as some call it) is this is the type of music that is the most popular right now.
--If you compare how many people listen to this music compared to rock or country for instance, then you would see that the younger generation people are more likely to listen to what their friends do and what is considered “cool” or attracts attention (usually if it attracts attention it is “cool” to them also). Unfortunately most (not all though) think that if their parents like it, then it cannot be “cool”.)
The ONLY reason I have even addressed this issues of music and such is that I cannot abide people who judge others.
IT IS NOT RIGHT to do so and the people who have generalized and categorized these issues into such small categories are wrong. In my personal opinion, there is only one who is the judge of our lives (whoever or whatever the individual may call them/that) but I call him God. My personal religious preference is that; my OWN. So, I beg those that do not share this view to forgive me if I have offended you. I did not mean to do so. I am merely stating my own personal opinion
--I am just saying that there are more views out there in this world than an individual’s own. We need to consider everyone’s views when talking to others.
Now, with having put my two cent’s worth in (like most of the people on this board did); Can we stick to the topic that this was intended for in the first place???????? The topic being; “What are your opinions of this coat?”
Val Fitzgerald Mar 9th 2007 4:19PM
Come ON now. That craphead W sending all our young to his war, you'd think he'd order that jacket up as body armor for the troops--now THAT'S 'SUPPORTING THE TROOPS!' As to the idiot who commented that it would 'only be good for handguns and not what they use in Iraq' --how the hell would you know that? A bullet's a bullet, long-range or short! An IED'd still blow you all to hell, and that POS in the White House--who never fought in ANY war--and his VP, ditto, 5X deferred for Vietnam!!! Trust little dimples like those two to, when some power comes their way, pull out all the stops and then send our kids over to a war that THEY STARTED FOR OIL--and not give them body armor like that jacket.
Better still, folks--don't laugh when you hear that an election's been rigged. Make sure the next one, isn't. That'd render this whole war discussion moot anyway. The jerk-off CinC that we got, he knows it was the SAUDIS and not the IRAQIS who did 9/11. He knows it because he has dinner with the SAUDIS at least once a month. When toward the end of his first term the SAUDIS said to him, "Don't worry, George--you won't be the 1-term president that your old man is, we got the where to help you with--" well, that's how 9/11 happened. SAUDIS. NOT IRAQIS. Get some smarts, folks--those two are deadly enemies, one from the other would never collaborate even to hit America with. So I ask--howcome the Saudis are still walking around, and their deadly enemies the Iraqis are who we're fighting??? Because W thinks we're all stupid? What--every Ay-rab is alike? Wow, I can't believe that Black Americans would be that dumb, even though the rest, seem to be. At least, W, he counted on that.
Yeah, what's that got to do with bulletproof anything. Well, anything got to do with bullets flying of any kind, has to do with bulletproof if available. W, he must have AF-1 completely shielded with that stuff! Or, the little coward would never have dared to 'visit Baghdad' like the lying crap 'media' we have nowadays, says that he did.
SARAH Mar 9th 2007 4:53PM
Warren, believe me i am not on a high horse and i don't think i'll ever be a target just because i listen to a certain kind of music. i also don't think that rap music has that much of an influence on society that it will ruin it.
t
he people who will be buying this jacket are paranoid people who bought gas masks after 911 and buy portable parachutes before they get on planes just in case. but you have to admit...it is a pretty cool concept...maybe for like an F.B.I. agent or something.
TB Mar 9th 2007 5:16PM
Maybe they could make the servicemen's uniforms out of the fabric-if it's not too heavy.
TB Mar 9th 2007 5:23PM
I agree with BD, #41: where to get it IS the obvious question. (S)he is also right about the range of people who would wear one. I wish they'd had them in 1980 and John Lennon had been wearing one!
