When you think of an expensive meal, you probably envision yourself at one of the
most expensive restaurants in the world, not eating take-out. That isn't to say that there is anything wrong with take-out, just that it is intended to be for convenience and is usually associated with casual affairs. Kayne West has just redefined take-out by ordering what must be one of the
most expensive take-out meals ever ordered (excluding large parties, where "take-out" becomes "catering"). He ordered dinner from a restaurant called British Raj, an Indian restaurant outside Cardiff, Wales, for himself and seven friends. Normally, such a meal would cost $17.50, but West is having it cooked, cooled, packed and shipped -- along with the chef who prepared the food -- to New York for a Wednesday meal.

To begin with, why the hell is anyone worried about what Kanye or any other star does with their money? He earned it he can do with it whatever he wants. I have my own life to worry about, not what someone wealthy does. I actually read the story cause i thought it was about some new meal that was covered in gold (in PA i had heard about some chocolates with gold on it for the King Tut exhibit). Then of course I got sucked in to seeing what people had to say about it.
I also agree that it is NOT up to the mega millionaires or billionaires to take care of the poor. I am that working poor person now. I have used state assitance to help get by, but I work dam hard to get off it too. I am going back to school to get my degree so i can do my job better and eventually will go to a 4 year so I can sit for my CPA. Will someone with a lot of money help? Nope, don't think so. Its up to me make it happen not the public. It is really sad how people have come to depend on state assitance and welfare. It is even sadder to listen to the social service employees teach you how to keep getting the assistance.I personally was once denied Medicaid during a pregnancy and the social worker literally told me not to work for one week that month and come back and reapply to get it. As much as I hate to say it, I did it. I don't like that I did it, but my childs health was much more important. Now I am working at getting my own insurance and will be adding my children as their state insurance comes to an end. I have been off the WIC for well over a year. Its hard not to have it, but i will be damned if I become a welfare mom.
Also Zorgen, while I agree with your theory of downfall I don't think it was JUST women going to work. With the price of gas and just basic necessities it is almost impossible to live off of one income in any family. My husband alone makes 35k and for a family of five, its not enough. We tried living with one income, no way....its impossible with our economy now. people would literally have to get back into the task of growing their own food....and seeing as how i have a black thumb from improper training, i just dont see that happening LOL.
But seriously, the people with money more than likely worked hard to get it, why should a bunch of people who don't have it tell them what to do with it?

My original post wasn't to condemn people with money or tell them what to do with it. Nor was it about Kayne or just celebrities. It was concerning those people who possess EXTREME wealth. It was about a form of gluttony. How can you own a thousand pairs of shoes when you know their are children who are shoeless? Or spend this kind of money on food when somewhere there is a child who is dying of starvation?

As a business owner, and most likely speaking on behalf of most business owners.. I will state this much.. People DO NOT want to work! People want to have their cake and eat it too, but they arent willing to put the icing on it.. The cost of living continues to rise.. people want paid more money.. they want more benefits.. but they work less.
People change jobs like underware. I get resumes/applications where a 22 year old has work up to 10+ jobs.. I worked TWO..
So my point is.. people choose their own path. Kids are raised today without work ethics.. they expect to get paid top dollar for no efforts.. Not all, but most. I can honestly say that I truly fear the next generation of adults.. If you want to be rich.. you work your ass off, you make HUGE sacrifices.., you earn that right.

I think you're all missing the point. What Kayne West did was truly an obscene example of conspicuous consumption. But to a mother of three hiding in the bush in Darfur because her dirt floor thatched hut was just burnt to the ground, your last trip to Chili's is just as obscene an imbalance in her eyes. To billions of people around the world, you are the haves. The very fact that you have a full stomach and a decent home puts you ahead of more than half the world. When you all foment revolution to take down the haves, remember that it is only a matter of perspective.

Who the heck is Kayne West? Oh, and I have 300 pairs of shoes, short of a thousand but working on it. Of course I buy at thrift stores and Goodwill and find many brand new shoes at such places so I am not spending hundreds of dollars on my shoes and wouldn't even if I could afford to.

Man! Could somebody please tell me why people think it is the responsibility of celebrities or the wealthy to clear poverty! Somebody earlier said something about what has he done to help Katrina victims, my question is...what did you do? And how do you know he didn't help? Stop throwing stones people! I agree with The Pool Guy about it being a matter of perspective. America has alot to be grateful for. Even some of the poorest people in this country have it better than those in other lands. For those who are so interested in clearing poverty, think of ways you can do it as well. Next time you see a homeless person, instead of holding a dollar through the crack of your window, with two fingers so they don't touch you, pull over, buy them a meal, and talk to them. Find out how they came to be homeless, and then see if there's something you can do to get them on track. A job feeds a person longer than your wrinkled up pitiful donation. Let's start worrying about what we can do ourselves and stop spending other people's money. Envy is just as ugly a thing as the gluttony and greed you all keep talking about.

People, Please stop and think. The money he is spending is going back into money train. Look at all the people who will get touched by his spending. The airline crews--taxi's--power company workers(it has to be heated back up) and al the other sevice workers. I wish all the rich people would spend money like this. Just stop and reflect on how many millions it would put back in the ecomony and not in some dark-cold-bank vault. If all the rich people did this look at all the new jobs that would be created-even if it is ordered from over seas it has to be put togeather-serviced-or cooked here. So stop and think about it-every time they buy land--contruction crews has to clean it and build---someone has to build their cars--houses--cloths--cell phones----etc... I hope they never stop spending money wastefully.

Kathy said it all pretty well. When I go to sleep at night I wonder how many starving people that latest 27 Million dollar sports contract would feed?
We can even the playing field somewhat while still allowing people to make great sums. Just make the income tax a straight 10% for rich or poor with no loopholes.
While my aunt left her millions to charity (mainly hospitals) it still shames me that she spent the last 30 years of her life paying lawyers and accountants to avoid having to pay income taxes on her millions.

Only in the good old US of A , It is sad that people starve to death all over the world everyday to say nothing of the amount of people below the poverty level in the United States. Im all for rich people living large but lets not rub it in peoples faces.

I work at a soup kitchen where we feed 100+ people a hot meal 6 days a week. Buying from the food bank in our city, at $0.18 a lb, I could buy 21,000 lbs of food. MORE THAN TWENTY THOUSAND POUNDS of salvagable nutritious food. Instead of seven friends, i could feed those hundred people for 210 days, more than six months!
The math is startling, and the situation is deplorable. I don't expect a check from the young mr. west anytime soon, but I hope that anyone who is outraged by this, channel their discontent and consider donating just $10 or the cost of one moderate meal to a local soup kitchen or food pantry. Hundreds of hungry people thank you!

"The money he is spending is not going on the American money train." It sickens me to read we live in America one of the richest countries so we all should be able to be "Multi Millionaires" give me a break. Just living life with your head above the water with two people working and one child gets harder everyday. I wonder if the person who worries about third world countries who posted on here came from such a place. Billions of dollars in aid go to these third world countries from our's. Just where is this money spent? It should be spent on sexual education and planned parenthood. That way these countries can stop reproducing and start to feed the people they have now. I seriously think sometime that there should be a limit on how many children these families can have. I know it sounds crazy but think about it. Why in the world would you bring a child into a world where you cannot feed yourself... We need to start sending birth control and sexual educators over to the third world countries instead of blindly sending money in which we have no idea where it is going. America has it's own poor and we all can not be fortunate enough to be multi millionaires. Some of us just work to keep a roof (barely) over our heads and food in our childrens mouths. We are not lucky enough to have money sent to us to help us out of debt. Like we do for so many other countries. When was the last time anyone ever heard of another countries celeberties (they are out there) coming to the aid of our poor children. Some of our people live without running water and electricity. Do your research America is the land of oppurtunity yes but not the land of everyone is rich.

I'm sure there are those of you out there who do and maybe do not know who Kanye West is. He had a hit rap song called Diamonds are Forever. He speaks exactly as most of you have here, words of a visionary who could be an amazing philanthropist, but completely contradicts this by doing something as outrageous as buying a meal like this. What would you do if you were actually mega rich? Can you really visualise yourself being in those shoes? Being of upper middle class, not only do I want to but I do contribute to charities and help those in need, but I too dream of having extreme wealth and how I would spend it. Giving without asking money that I earn already, I know I would still do the same if I was extremely wealthy. Does having "too much" money drive anyone into being completely self focused and greedy? What would you do?
