The Heritage Inn

Mendocino, a few winding hours up the coast from San Francisco, is one of the places on the West Coast that reminds me most of Bar Harbor and the Maine coast in general. The Heritage House Inn would fit in perfectly with in a Maine vacation town, The main building has a farmhouse look and views of a rocky and scenic coastline. The Heritage House Inn is located five miles south of Mendocino and rambles over 37 acres that include updated cottages that have LCD TVs, feather beds and woodburning fireplaces. Some suites have themes such as the "Same Time, Next Year" suite which was the setting for the Alan Alda movie years ago. Now the resort has been updated for today's tourist with a spa and a restaurant that serves fresh seafood and has a wine list stocked with well-regarded local vintages. The romantic setting also makes it an ideal spot for a destination wedding. Suites start around $500.
