A little less sparkle at the Grammys this year
Oddly enough the Grammy Awards which are usually a chance for people to be as outrageous as possible, were fairly understated even when it came to jewelry. Like we saw at the Golden Globes, earrings and rings dominated for the most part with very few complete sets on display. Luckily some stars still managed to wear some large pieces. The beneifts of blinging up a performer like Fergie is that you have all those additonal ear piercings for diamonds. She wore custom small diamond hoops and massive heavy looking chandelier earrings from Rafinity. Lovely designs to be sure but they look like they are seriously weighting down the poor girl's lobes.
Most of the men at the event also sported bright white diamond stud earrings, often from Jacob & Co. Rapper Akon proudly proclaimed that his diamonds came from his own mine in South Africa. After the jump, some more of the shimmering displays from the evening.

Christina Aguilera wore lavender jade and diamonds in the form of large hoops, bangle bracelets and a right hand ring, all from Lorraine Schwartz .

The fabulous Cee-Lo Green of Gnarls Barkley shows off the always popular diamond-covered watch and diamond-studded cross look.

Christina Ricci's brown dress was complemented by a 27 carat chocolate and white diamond cuff and seven carat chocolate and white diamond long earrings from Chopard.

Pink went with black and white diamonds including black and white diamond bangles and fleur de lys black and white earrings from Neil Lane which matched her black dress and black nail polish.

Check out Jay Manuel's black diamond looks from VBH. Manuel wore a 6.63 carat black and white diamond tattoo pendant; a 21.5 carat colorless Diamond and leather cuff; a 4.4 carat black diamond tattoo ring and 2.85 carat black diamond tattoo cufflinks.

Big winner Mary J. Blige wore an armful of fancy yellow radiant cut diamond line bracelets from Lorraine Schwartz.

Actress Jeri Ryan complented her rather boring outfit with some serious diamonds wearinig a 30 carat diamond bracelet valued at $195,000 and three carat diamond cushion cut earrings valued at $250,000 from Martin Katz.

I wonder if "less bling" is being worn because of a growing awareness of the hard lives of the people who mine them? Diamonds may go the way of fur soon.
