Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece, The Most Expensive Pen Ever Created

I'm not sure how you would write with it, but the Limited Edition Mystery Masterpiece, a joint creation between Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels, is one amazing pen. Both companies celebrated their centennials in 2006 and the pen is meant to showcase each company's area of expertise. There are three variations, set either with rubies, sapphires or emeralds, and accented by diamonds. There are three versions of each pen for a total of nine. Each pen has 840 diamonds and more than 20 carats of gemstones set in a Van Cleef & Arpels patented "Mystery Setting" that conceals the stone settings. A groove is made on the culet, the bottom facet of the stone, which is then slid onto the threads of the lattice design so that the stones can be held in place side by side without any visible support. The Mystery sells for $730,000, making it the most expensive writing instrument ever created. Truly a masterpiece of the jeweler's art, I just wish I could wear it around my neck.

Imagine how pissed you'd be if you were writing with this thing and the ink got stuck! Or what if you took it out of your pocket and found that the ink had exploded, and all the diamonds and rubies were stained blue?

I think they should have made a jewel-encrutsted 12 inch adult toy instead, atleast you would get something out of it and ironically, they just f*#$ed you out of $730,000. This pens got Paris Hiltons name all over it, lol.

YOU BLEEDING HEARTS MAKE ILL! YOU ALWAYS EXPECT THE PEOPLE OF WEALTH TO GIVE IT AWAY. WHAT ABOUT THAT FANCY CELL PHONE YOU JUST HAD TO HAVE, OR THE COMPUTER YOU'RE SITTING IN FRONT OF NOW, DID YOU REALLY HAVE TO OWN THEM? NO, YOU JUST WANTED THEM AND SAW FIT TO PURCHASE THEM. SHOULD WE HANG YOU BY YOUR THUMBS AND FLOG YOU FOR NOT GIVING THAT MONEY TO THE POOR WHO CAN'T EVEN PAY THIER UTILITY BILL? YOU HAVE NO MORE ROOM TO TALK OR THROW STONES THAN I!! YOU WAISTE YOUR MONEY AND BUY TOYS JUST AS I DO. I JUST BUY BIGGER AND BETTER TOYS BECAUSE I CAN, IF YOU COULD YOU WOULD TOO. SO QUIT WHINING, TAKE NEXT WEEKS PAY CHECK ( I THINK THATS WHAT YOU CALL IT ) AND INSERT IT INTO AN ENVELOPE LICK A STAMP AND MAIL IT OFF TO SOME THIRD WORLD COUNTRY, AND THE AGENCY THAT CUTS $.85 ON THE DOLLAR WILL BE FOREVER IN YOUR DEBT! IN THE MEAMTIME, SHOULD I BUY THE RED OR THE GREEN?

To the wanna-be-puker ranting about people with wealth and appreciation for fine, rare and precious materials and workmanship being ignorant, greedy, foolish and blind...did it ever occur to you that is these very people who just may be the reason 318,000 children don't die of starvation every day!!! Sorry but you win the ignorant label today, my friend. Unless, perhaps you are a frustrated communist dictator seeking any possible excuse to bash all people who act, speak, live, believe & perceive differently than you do while at the same time portraying yourself as "the righteous one" so superior to even those more educated, worldly and wise than you. The few with their eyes wide open see the sickness in your psyche. Get well soon.

The pen is exquisite albeit being very expensive. More expensive than warrants I think, but the concealed settings and mastery of craftsmanship looks incredible.
You know, you can complain about the excessive use of stones, how it can feed the children, cure aids, or other banal cliche farms found in these fora, but the fact of the matter is this: This pen is the flagship model celebrating the centennials of two renouned companies. Handmade with finest materials, it is impeccable, a work of art. I can guarantee you that these will be purchased by true purists of the art of writing instruments and not by born-rich libertines. When was the last time Paris Hilton bought a Renoir ?
"Why" ? (Aside from being an investment) For the same reason museums and benefactors spend millions on paintings - owning a unique piece of history and appreciating (or letting others) the mastery of it. Hardly a case of self indulgence.

I am very sorry but I find the price tag on this pen to be quite disgusting. I dont know who is worse really, the corporate company that designed this pen and put it up for sale in order to bag the almight dollar, or the person that will no doubt ultimately purchase this bauble merely to make a statement that says "I can afford to buy it therefore I do". I've been a pen turner for a little over a year now and I make some gorgeous pens in woods and acrylics though I would never ever even think about putting such perverse price tags on my pieces. You see, my philosophy unlike corporate america, is to offer the best quality product possible at the most reasonable price that I possibly can. Sadly this point gets lost somewhere in the larger companies which is quite a shame. Perhaps this is why the economy is so messed up? Yes I might not get rich, and I might not get to live the jet setter lifestyle, but I know for a fact that I will live a good life and make a decent living doing something that I really enjoy doing. Imagine that? Maybe you should!!
