Tradewinds, Estate of the Day

When I covered Middle Sedge Island recently many people said that if they were going to do island life they would go far, far away and find somewhere truly exotic. Today's estate suits that bill. I've mentioned Hamilton Island before, one of the Australia's Whitsunday Islands which serves as the entrance to Great Barrier Reef. Tradewinds is a beautiful home on One Tree Hill, a high peak on the island. It was created by architect Chris Beckingham with a Balinese style using exotic hardwoods. The home has indoor and outdoor living areas including five bedrooms. There is an amazing infinity-edge pool and gardens of bougainvilla, frangipani, and kentia palms. This impressive home offers amazing views and Hamilton Island is also home to a large marina and is also home to the Hahn Classic Race Week and the Great Barrier Feast so you don't get too lonely for visitors. The home is expected to go for around $7 million Australian. After the jump, Aussie idyllic.

If someone asked me what my idea of heaven on earth is, this house in Australia would be my answer. This place is spectacular and if this is anything like heaven, well.......

Hamilton Island...aka "the Rock" to locals... Hamilton Island is having a bed bug problem and it is unlikely it will abate and only get worse. Having been there and done it, I'd say that if you are a recluse, the place would be awesome. Otherwise, life can be a bit routine and island life is B-O-R-I-N-G and very expensive on the Rock, not to mention the transient nature of the place - it bills itself as a "resort" island which is pretty much true. You know the saying, Great place to visit, but....

I've visited the Whitsunday Islands, including Hamilton Is. I can say, after visiting dozens of nations on 4 continents, there is absolutely positively no more angelic place on this Earth than the Whitsunday Islands. I love the place. Period.
