Middle Sedge Island, Estate of the Day

Often private islands are in remote locations. Not this one. This island is located in Lavallette, N.J. The unique home on this small island was built to give the feeling of being on a ship. It has five bedrooms and there is also a one-bedroom guest house. The home has a helipad (there is a helicopter on the premises) and there are two boats included (19' & 25'). This unique property also comes with a lot on the mainland for docking your boat for access to the island. The island also has an in-ground pool, bocce court, jogging path and a beach. It is listed at $8.5 million. After the jump, your morning commute just got a bit more interesting.

If you believe Al Gore, in 50 years, this property will be under water.

if any kind of foul weather comes, this property is underwater.

Al Gore's a complete Tool/Fool. But yeah, I agree, any big storm and this place must get wet. Sure does look great in the pictures though.

This house is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! It probaly does get pretty wet when a storm comes but I would get it in a heart beat if I had that kind of money

I could be a billionaire, and I still won't pay 8.5 million on one stinking home. I would start a business and then eventually buy homes in each state I'd like to spend a few months out of the year in. I would also help the needy. Damnit, I need to find a wealthy man. Where the heck do all the rich, smart good looking guys hang out?

I would not want this house as beautiful as it is i would need a bit civilazation and if im going to be paying that kind of money why would i buy it in new jersey id buy an island or house or whatever in like the bahamas or something...

Knowing that most of Al Gore's statements on global warming are totally false (He basically is blaming the combustion engine for the end of the ice age some 20,000 years ago), in 10 years time, you will probably be able to walk across the frozen water to get to the island house!

kate, all the rich, handsome, billionaires, hangout together at the club down the street... they got nothing better to do, but count their money and spend it... all the women go down and pick one out and live happily ever after...ken

I've actually boated past this home on the Jersey Shore, and the wake from our mediums sized cruiser sent waves pounding against the shoreline. This home is DOOMED in a Nor'easter, and forget it if they get the tail end of a hurricane. I heard from a Realtor friend of mine the house has been for sale for a long time, and nobody will buy it (the asking price is VERY reasonable, considering you could buy a 2 bedroom condo for nearly $1M three blocks from the water in the same city!) but the home and land is UNINSURABLE and if you cannot afford to buy this place with cash, no mortgage company will give you a loan for it, regardless of your credit and collateral, if you cannot get insurance on it. Insurance WOULD cost about $25K per year IF you could find it!! Nice house - but fuhghettaboutit!

saw it on the broker open house would make a great place for corporate retreats, family parties etc. the bay has frozen in the winter in the past but there is the helipad.

Peggy Feb 5th 2007 12:10AM
WOW!! If only I had that kind of money!
Beautiful Home!
Jeff Feb 5th 2007 12:29AM
not worth the money. I could buy a much better home for less and wouldn't have to worry about huricanes. beside thats not a very big island, more of a floating house if you ask me.theres not even a beach area.
caroline Feb 5th 2007 12:43AM
I agree that the house is gorgeous. In fact, the island itself is spectacular. The property has been on the market for a long while and nobody can dispute the fact that it is a high risk investment. If you ask me; having seen it first hand..it's breathtaking but for that amount, I can invest in Hawaii instead.

FOR #7 KATE, WHAT WAS THAT? IF YOU WERE A BILLIONAIRE
YOU WOULD START A BUSINESS SO YOU COULD BUY HOUSES IN ALL THE STATES. I DON'T THINK YOU KNOW HOW MUCH A BILLION REALLY IS.
james Feb 5th 2007 4:35AM
you can buy 2 large single hull oil barges in exccellent shape no leaks{dime a dozen now} because they no longer can be built because of oil hazard spills. weld them together and you would have about an acre. sod them over for a nice yard, build a home just like this one on top with an in barge (ground) pool. have a nice yard with palm trees and flower gardens and 10 helicopters could land at a time and you would have over 600 ft. of built in docks along the sides of the barges along with 10 ft high storage down in the holds of the barges. use two anchors to hold it in place. when bad weather comes in move it with a tug boat then move it back or anywhere you want to place it. you could do this for about half of the price of this soon to be gone island house and you could insure it just like a house boat or yacht with no problem. hey KATE the reason you can't find these rich guys is because they are all hiding from gold digging b*&(*&$'s like you.

IF YOU BUY AN ISLAND , BUY ONE WHERE IT NEVER FREEZES , MAYBE THE FL. KEYS -VERY NICE- OR IN THE CARIBBEAN - LOTS OF ISLANDS THERE..I LIVE ON THE OCEAN FRONT , YOU HAVE THE VIEW AND YOU CAN DRIVE TO THE STORE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, IF YOU HAVE TO, NOT SO IF YOU LIVE ON AN ISLAND..KATE, IF YOU HAVE A BILLION YOU DON'T NEED TO "START A BUSINESS"
