Athena Yacht Hits Australia
A tasty little bit of gossip from an Aussie paper led me on an afternoon search for pictures of perhaps one of the most beautiful yachts in the world, Athena, owned by billionaire Jim Clark. The Daily Telegraph reports that young model Kristy Hinze is dating the much-older Clark and that the yacht is now in Newcastle Harbor. The $100 million yacht is one of the largest three-masted privately owned sailing yachts in the world and is a bit more traditional in design than the other big sailer, the Maltese Falcon.Athena was built by Royal Huisman with Pieter Beeldsnijder for exterior and interior design and the naval architectural skills of Gerard Dijkstra & Partners. A review on Yacht Forums has some tempting pictures that show just how special this yacht is. Everything from the gleaming aluminum superstructure to the beautiful teak and mahogany details was created to the highest levels of craftsmanship. She combines the best of the traditions of classic yacht manufacturing with the latest technological advancements. The decks feature much more outdoor seating than I have seen on other sailing yachts including a massive aft deck lounger that is surrounded by a U-shaped structure for wind protection. Inside it has a huge professional kitchen and amazing mahogany-lined rooms filled with soft ivory and beige furnishings. The master suite includes a bathroom which is wreathed in white marble. The entire yacht is absolutely gorgeous if you have a chance check out the pics here and here.
