Tag Heuer To Make Luxury Cell Phones?
We recently saw a new Prada phone and of course there is always Vertu but watch company Tag Heuer, which has also made a move into the sunglasses market, is planning to release a luxury cell phone. Tag Heuer is teaming up with ModeLabs to create a new phone that Bloomberg reports could cost over $1,000. No pics but the gadget dirt is that it will be stainless steel and doubtlessly going after the same tough-and-luxe dude market that their other products inhabit.[via Engadget Mobile]

How do you pronounce Tag Heuer?

It sounds like "togg hoyer"

It's pronounced "Tag" like the children's game, not Tog. It's just the initials for Techniques d'Avant Garde, an Arab consortium that added them to the logo when they owned an interest in the company. Everyone who works there pronounces it Tag. (I worked there for years myself.) Hoyer, accent on the first syllable, is right though. Lots of people mispronounce that part and leave off the R, which is the name of the company founder. Ed Heuer, being from the French-speaking part of Switzerland, pronounced his name in that manner, which enunciates the letter 'R' at the end of words containing that letter. There, more than you wanted to know. ;)

Thanks to #3 for detailed explanation of pronunciation of Tag Heuer. I've always wondered about that and said it wrong. How embarassing.
It's about time watch companies started making quality cellphone pieces inspired by the motifs of their watches. I'm not a big fan of Tag, but I've been waiting forever for Omega to make this:

I've had a running debate about this with my husband. If you pronounce it the German way it would sound like #2. I assumed it was a German name; Tag=day, Heuer=hour. I thought smart marketing! But now seeing #3 explanation, I guess I was way off on my assumption and a bit disappointed. Thanks for enlightening me though.
