ShieldPro: Waterproof Laptop
If you have ever spilled anything on your laptop, you know what a disaster it can be. A friend once spilled coffee on mine and I was lucky that only the keyboard needed to be replaced, not the entire computer. But the vast majority of us have drinks near our computers on a regular basis and accidents do happen, which is precisely why NEC's ShieldPro laptop is so amazing. The whole computer is waterproof and it can withstand drops of up to 90-cm, as well as extreme weather conditions (-4°F to 122°F). The computer will be released in January in Japan and will run about ¥300,000 ($2,600).

A waterproof/drop proof/weatherproof laptop?!?! Awesome! Now if they could just make one that I could check with my luggage that could withstand an airline I would be in heaven! I'm sick of dragging the thing along with me!

Yes & also helpful for canoers who help Rescue & Recovery missions during disasters! Would have helped tremendously during the Shuttle incident.

I would like to know how this computer compares to the Itronix. Itronix has had a computer with similar specs for years. I still use mine.

Would seem to be a great development for all of the emergency rescue disciplines operating in adverse conditions!

This seems to be a great development for all aspects of emergency rescue disciplines. Field and Fire Scene operations can be made much simpler to have maps and building plans preloaded for your area of responsibility without having to request them and then wait. Time waiting is a waste when it is critical for rescue efforts to save lives.

WOW! I think this is amazing what technoglogy can do! I am a technoglogy expert though and this sounds a little bit fishy! I may buy it when it comes to the u.s.a and test it because it sounds rather kool. I'm not sure how amazing it truly is though

Please describe "withstand a 90-cm drop!"
Does that mean it will still function, but look like a piece of op-art?
joe Jan 3rd 2007 9:34PM

Jesse Jan 3rd 2007 12:22PM
Would be useful for wilderness photography. Backcountry photography during the winters in Montana can be hard on electronics. -4 is pretty good.... would be nice if it were lower. WWW.EyeInTheWild.com

G'day Whyzman,
90 cm is just a tad over 35 inches - approximately three feet.
