As far as the European disitribution concerned, the Signature SS Duo is not being offered here anymore.
I believe Vertu was not offering its phones in the States for a while, so maybe you are just playing a catch-up?...

dualhub

Comments on Signature Duo Vertu Phones

I really do not want to be rude but this is the first Vertu released back in 2001. The latest (non limited edition)version of it was released in 2005 which is the Vertu Signature Diamonds. The regular Signature was also updated in 2005 with bluetooth and some other additions but is not this one. The one pictured is the first one as you can tell by the black and white screen and the gaps at the bottom of the screen. Also there is no longer any need for an external antenna and it is not possible to attach one to the latest Signature.

Rick

Comments on Signature Duo Vertu Phones

Vertu gadgets are so cool but so expensive .... http://www.mobile.mobilityphones.com/cell-reviews/vertu/phones-1-1.html

mobile phones

Comments on Signature Duo Vertu Phones

Rick is partially right, this is the first (and in my opinion most elegant) series in the Vertu collection, but this Signature model was the latest of the series. All previous ones featured black face or "dial", this one was the first to incorporate a metallic face. Later came the Signature Diamond revamp.
However, this is still nothing new. I remember seeing this exact model at Tourneau (Caesar's Palace) in Las Vegas back in 2003, so it's hardly a game of catch-up as dualhub mentioned. These phones have been available in USA for some time now.

Dmitry Paradis

Comments on Signature Duo Vertu Phones

One more thing, they are really making it sound like 69.25 carats is a lot of sapphire. By contrast, here is a picture of a 120ct monocrystal sapphire that I've come across in my previous employment: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/33072276

Dmitry Paradis

Comments on Signature Duo Vertu Phones

As far as I am concerned, US makret was pretty high on the priorities list for Vertu, so I am positive that Vertu made sure all new models have showed up there on time. What's absolutely strange is the price which is way over european one.
As for the crystal - surely, this 120ct is a big one. But it is raw as well. Vertu claims its 69.25ct piece to be the biggest [finished] piece of sapphire crystal. It's still fair then.

dualhub

Comments on Signature Duo Vertu Phones

dualhub: I wasn't clear, this is all referring to synthetic sapphire which is dirt cheap to make. In the watch community no-one mentions the carat weight of crystals, thickness if anything at all. A crystal for this phone will not cost over $30 to manufacture. The sapphire in the photo of my last post was optical grade (perfect) and cost around $60, so it wasn't expensive to crack to pieces.
