Divorcing Divas Face Real Estate Drama
Whitney Houston may be free of Bobby Brown but her woes aren't over yet. Her New Jersey mansion is listed as being up for bid at a sheriff's sale on January 4 by the Morris County Sheriff's Office. She owes more than $1 million in back taxes and other charges. According to the Daily Record of Parsippany newspaper, the sale was scheduled on Tuesday and neither the mortgage nor taxes have been paid so far this year. Houston's estate is actually two lots and the lot for sale has been assessed at $889,300. The adjacent lot is worth more than $5.6 million and Houston bought both properties in 1987 for $2.7 million.Whitney's not the only diva set to ditch the house following a big break-up. Britney Spears just put her Malibu house on the market for $13.5 million in the wake of her split from Kevin Federline.

Actually, Ms. Houston's NJ home isn't the only piece of property being lost. According to an article in today's Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "Pop star Whitney Houston is no longer a Country Club of the South resident. Her home in the Alpharetta subdivision, which she and her husband Bobby Brown bought for $1.1 million in 2003, went into foreclosure this fall and was sold Nov. 7 on the steps of the Fulton County Courthouse. The five-bedroom, five-bath property at 1014 Tullamore Place in Alpharetta is back up for sale for $1,398,000, according to various real estate web sites."
I suppose living in L.A. now while she works on an album may explain the losses in property. I guess Bobby didn't volunteer to help make payments?

Apparently the paper was wrong:
-Houston’s home not sold at foreclosure-

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Wachovia Mortgage Corp. officials and Whitney Houston’s Atlanta attorney Mark Trigg each confirmed Friday that the singer still owns her Country Club of the South home in north Fulton County.
Trigg said that a foreclosure had been advertised by Fulton County this fall but was not carried out. Houston now has the house up for sale.
“There has not been a foreclosure sale and the account is currently in good standing,” said David Oliver, Wachovia Vice President for Corporate Communications for Georgia. He declined to say when the outstanding payments had been made.
In online and print editions Thursday and Friday, the AJC erroneously reported that the home had been sold at a foreclosure sale Nov. 7.
