$100,000 Balenciaga Leggings
As a trend, leggings aren't going out of style just yet. Instead, they're getting more sophisticated. Balenciaga featured this particular pair in their S/S 2007 runway collection. They look metallic, but it is more likely that they are made of some sort of metallic fabric than actual gold. Then again, they are made only at request and cost roughly $100,000 per pair, which is pretty steep for what amounts to what is little more than long underwear.

It is perverse that with so much poverty just in the USA alone not to mention the world that anyone would spend 100 K on a pair of leggings. It is truly incomprehensible!
jessica Nov 17th 2006 10:10AM

OK. The leggins are a vulgar display of wealth and I could think of a lot better things to do with 100,000.
BUT what I really want to know is this.....is that model the 88# model that just died??? Is she way too thin or what?

100K? Damn, what is wrong with this world -- too materalism and greed or is it egotical??? Who in their right mind would want to spend that kind of money when there are so many suffering in this world in term of poverty! That kind of money can help feed the poor or help many homeless people in this country or many other countries. I am not ignorant to the fact that there are many people who wouldn't mind spending that kind of money because to them, it is just peanut, what a sad world we live in.

So does anyone believe that the same people that purchase these leggings for $100,000.00 would be willing to buy a sandwich for a destitute person? If so, contact Larry Rice of the New Life Evangelistic Center in St.Louis, Missouri.

It is sad and pathetic when someone has and extra $100,000 laying around to buy ugly leggings that are really kind of as crass as their price. Wake up rich people...there are people who need help...send $99,980 to Katrina victims or something and buy a nice $20 pair of leggings. Ones that don't look so gaudy.

This model looks like she was just rescued from Auschwitz! Horribly thin!
diane Seaquuis Nov 17th 2006 9:39AM
why?

Why is it, everytime they show us something way out there, we concentrate on the $$$ and feeding some poor nation? Can't we just talk about the pants?? I think they are different looking in a cool sorta way, They look good on her long legs though. NYC, LA or some European metropolis is the only place you could wear them and not look too freaky.

Why does everyone complain about what people spend their OWN money on? If they can afford it and want it, then it's no one elses business. As for charities, guess who gives the MOST. That;s right, Corporations and wealthy people. How much did YOU spend on charities last year?
Michele Nov 17th 2006 9:47AM
Can you imagine being so rich that you could afford $100k leggings??? I guess it's all in contrast, with my income I can afford $68 jeans at the Gap, and to a multi millionaire $100k may be the same to them as $68 is to me. I prob gave about $150 to charity this past year but a wealthy person prob gave way more...I hope.
ALTHOUGH I wear those jeans all the time, and they aren't ugly like those leggings which will prob only be worn once.

can we say ...the "spandex" look? ACK!

This reminds me of Tomkat having 10,000 roses for their Italian Wedding ceremony in the castle with people flying from all over the world and shipping in hairstylists and what not - for one day - to satisfy their pathetic humongous egos and these pants are the same thing - how many times are you going to wear something like this? Once? When you could buy something really nice or have a really nice small private wedding and instead give the money to help fight for human rights in Darfur or to find a cure for cancer, The leggings are ugly too. This model looks like she should sell the pants and go buy a BigMac. Don't they feed models?

I'm pretty sure the model is Ana Carolina Reston who just died from anorexia. Too sad.

These people really need to watch "Diana: Legacy of a Princess." She was a woman who could have anything and everything she wanted, but yet used her fame to benefit those less fortunate. I had forgotten all the wonderful things she did for people. For someone to even consider designing these leggings is absolutely reprehensible, not to mention purchasing or wearing them.

Fashion is a business, just like any other. I can only hope that these will be worn to a charity event and then auctioned off someday for a good cause. There are certainly vain excesses everywhere, just as there will always be a few very rich people who can afford them and want them. But would a celebrity or socialite wait in line to see a fashion show with an average American woman (5'4" and 142 lbs) strutting down the runway in a $20 pair of Gap leggings? If people would pay money to see that, then it would happen. Laissez- faire and human nature and all that. The only person anyone can truly change is themselves. If you would give away most of your money to charity instead of spending it on excess, then, regardless of who else you may or may not have helped, you will have a much richer life.
