Bozeman Contemporary, Estate of the Day

There's just something about a modern structure in a rustic setting that I found absolutely mesmerizing. This concrete and glass home in Montana is a step away from the usual Western architecture we usually see in the region. This home is in the Cottonwood Ranch gated community but is located high in the trees and offering expansive views of mountains and forest without another home in sight. The home itself is a bit chillier than the usual log walls and stone fireplaces of many Montana homes but it serves as a dramatic framework for the current owner's expansive art collection. It is listed at $4 million. After the jump, western goes modern.

Ludicrious-Outta be a ban on grossities like this. Don't they live in some jurisdiction with some laws?

I like some of the decor inside. It has a very warm feel indoors, but outside it appears unrelaxed. It also looks too futuristic for my taste, and I think that its placement in this remote setting just makes it more striking and out of place.

Ok, it looks like a modern lab placed in a setting that doesn't want to be interrupted by modernization or industrialization.

IS THAT A PICTURE OF THE BAND KISS IN PICTURE #3?I WOULD ALSO MIGHT ADD THAT THIS HOUSE IS WAY TOO CLEAN. I WONDER IF ANYONE SPENDS ANY TIME IN IT ALL ALL. AND MY FINAL ANALYSIS IS THAT ANYONE THAT WOULD PUT A HOME LIKE THIS IN RURAL MONTANA IS AN ABSOLUTE MORON

Nothing pretty about it. Looks like a WWll bunker without the gun-turret and machine gun slits. Bye the by, nature is log. When, in the woods, did you ever see a natural stone 12' x12' x 18" with a polished finish !

That house looks like giant refrigerator... and as cold as one, too.

Don't blame that atrocity on California.
PHIL Nov 15th 2006 8:09PM
Looks like an office building/bank...just doesn't fit the scenery.

I is too clean, cold looking, and too many edges. Does not look lived in or visited. I'd prefer the long cabin. Beach setting or Manhatten skyline would look better.
Anderson Nov 15th 2006 8:51PM
Perfect in every way.Not everyone wants a log cabin in the wilderness. You wouldn't look twice at a log cabin photo. Think outside the box.

Nice house, I am sure. Not for a rural location. So very much out of place.
lynn Nov 16th 2006 12:07AM
In response to #20...If you never been to Montana, you don't know what you're missing. It is one of the most beautiful areas of the U.S. And Ted only owns a small portion of it.
Bozeman is a open minded city. This contemporary house is just another part of its' makeup.

The design of this house looks like the result of giving a very average, unimaginative, asexual 15 year old a protractor and a ruler and telling him/her to draw a house. It's cold, boring, and shows not a whit of passion. The only appropriate setting for this unremitting design? In the classroom waste receptacle on a piece of lined notebook paper with a big red "F" on it.

paging Jackie Treehorn!
no seriously too all you folks that think the location is better suited to a loghome; somewhere in the Rocky Mountain West there is a very happy forest fire rubbing his hands together and doing his best Mr. Burns impersonation(excellent!)
