Bozeman Contemporary, Estate of the Day

There's just something about a modern structure in a rustic setting that I found absolutely mesmerizing. This concrete and glass home in Montana is a step away from the usual Western architecture we usually see in the region. This home is in the Cottonwood Ranch gated community but is located high in the trees and offering expansive views of mountains and forest without another home in sight. The home itself is a bit chillier than the usual log walls and stone fireplaces of many Montana homes but it serves as a dramatic framework for the current owner's expansive art collection. It is listed at $4 million. After the jump, western goes modern.

It is a nice house, there are a few minor things that I would definitely change. Beautiful scenery. You would think that if he can afford a $4 million home, he could also pay someone to cut the grass!!

Much rather have a log cabin in this setting.

Looks like a Corbusier home from the 1960's. Can appreciate the architecture and some of the furnishings. The setting is quite lovely providing exquisite views.

As a resident of Missoula's Rattlesnake area I'm mystified by Bozeman where prices average something like $360,000. Whitefish yes, but Bozeman? Missoula, comparable to Bozeman in many ways, can put you in that same house for $75,000 to $100,000 less.

I love it. I feel like I have been there before.

I agree with the person that said a log cabin would look better here. Actually, I think it is terribly out of place, and messes up the beauty of the area. It just looks ridiculously out of place.

In regard to comment #5...if you can afford a $4million home, you're not worried about saving that extra $75,000 to $100,000.

Looks like someone from CA or back East designed it. Obviously not an eco friendly house. I agree that a log home would have been a better choice. This design is out of place in this area. I bet it is only lived in 30 to 40 days a year. Leave houses like this on the PCH!

I love the house. The views must be wonderful. Only thing negative about it "just seems a little cold.
emma Nov 15th 2006 3:40PM
Don't blame that ugliness on someone from "back East" no sirreeee

I think that house is gorgeous and I wouldn't mind living in it. In fact, I think I would like to live in it.

Cut the grass?? Are you kidding? You obviously don't know anything about the wilderness or forest living. That isn't a lawn! Next you'll be thinking the trees need to be "pruned"!

The house looks so cold and uninviting. I feel it is totally out of place in that area. Why not a log cabin along the same design. Would seem much more fitting and with a much warmer appeal. 4 Million... geesh! cold concrete sure is expensive. I have a few cement blocks to sell... hahaha

Being on California's Central Coast (Monterey/ Carmel) it would be more suiting to have this home overlooking the ocean..... not out in the middle of nowhere....

its disgustingly out of place.

Who cares about the owner's artwork INSIDE! What about nature's artwork OUTSIDE? I'm not an architect or even a professional designer but I do have good taste; and this home in this location is just wrong.
Suzanne Crase Nov 15th 2006 4:29PM
The inside looks about as personal and as cozy as a generic hotel. Not my cup of tea, but to each his/her own.

I think the house is out of place. However, it is a nice place and I would love to own it myself. As far as cutting the grass, it's the wilderness, what do you expect??? Maybe a few deer will come by and groom it for them.

It reminds me of Falling Waters in PA. Beautiful setting, wrong house. I'd rather have the log cabin.
