For the
luxury brands bridal show this weekend at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Mimi So Jewelers teamed up with cake designer Nahid La Patisserie Artistique to create what might be the
most expensive wedding cake ever made. With a price tag of $20 million, the cake is covered in diamonds and will be surrounded by a team of security guards throughout the event. It won't get eaten even after the event is over, as the beweled frosting is not exactly tooth-friendly, but the cake is certainly eye candy!

Notice the first line. It was a promotion for a wedding show. No one ordered it, no one is getting it for their wedding. Although, someone vain and self-absorbed(Paris Hilton comes to mind) might actually want one.

Billy,
Your "let them eat cake" attitude is not really an appropriate response in this case. Everybody deserves what they've worked hard to get, and nobody should expect to have things handed to them... but a 20 mill cake... Anyway, how'd you do so well with such poor writing skills?

I am commenting to Billy. First, I commend your efforts and success on gettinng out of a hellish situation. You are right, more people should take more interest in their own lives. But I have to say. I still know people who still did not have that opportunity nor the ambition not because it wasn't brought aware but some people need that push and when they don't get it, then...
Needless to say. This money could have still been used for better purposes. There are homeless children and women and children in shelters who could use some help. You can't deny the children that help. Adults or even young adults, maybe. But babies. Kids with diseases who's families don't have money or means for medicines or treatments. 20 million dollars for a CAKE?!?!?!?!
Again, congratulations on your success but there are still better uses for that money

Oh Billy Boy, your story sounds like one out of Hollywood but in actuality it is coming from your ass..Nice try though..

Very funny. Only a few of you dimwits realized this is a publicity gag. The armed guards protect the diamonds. They wash them off and life goes on. What I would like to see is some of the rappers giving up some of the 'BLING' to help some poor people. I guess it would not be good for their image if they helped people rather than talking about killing them.

I agree the cake is nice, but the cost is outrageous, As far people needing the money in New Orleans, they need to get off there lawn chairs and get a job, and start repairing their own lives without assistance from the world. They were worned of what may happen down there, I know, I live in Louisiana, and they have moved in our area asking for handouts and charity then and they continue now. I think if I had an extra 20 million to spend on a cake, then I would, that would tell anyone that I earned it and deserve it, no matter
what the public thinks, there are people who earn a good living and can afford things like this, so why not let them enjoy them. For the ones who don't work or haven't worked to better themselves it is their own fault.

What a waste of time/energy/money - I have two sons I can't afford to help with college - worked like a dog all my life to survive as a single parent. I do begrudge this kind of behavior and have little respect for people who do these type of things. How do you teach your children to respect money and act responsibly when people act like this? Go figure.

ok. if someone goes and spends $20,000,000 on a wedding cake.......obviously either they are 1) rich as can be! , 2) a spiled rich kid, or 3) they actually did work for it.....How do any of you know what these people are or did to get this cake? did u actually sit down with them and ask "how did u get this cake?!?!?" i think not.

Billy you're a real asshole!
michael Oct 24th 2006 4:15PM
Hold on Billy....I know somethings grow on the sides of volcanoes, but, in the center, in a rain forest...whose the crackhead, are you on crack? Anyway, congratulations on doing so well, a government retirement in the middle of Central America, after working for the highest bidder in those kind of situations, delving into ruining other countries does give you a sinister outlook on the philosophies of the common man. Pal, is that you?

I just want to say that social issues such as hunger and homelessness are not relegated to the United States alone. These are certainly global issues as well. With that said, not everyone is afforded the opportunity to "work at 16" (only to purchase a car a year later) As well, I too have very little pity on those who milk the government for money, however, let's not misrepresent people. Trying to get over is not everyone's agenda. To assist in the eradication of generalizing, we need to be clear and we need to be fair. At this point, I'm beyond the "cake" issue. I'm actually more concerned about those individuals who appear to be so self-absorbed that they can't decipher the difference between choices and circumstances. Billy, as hard as it may be to believe, everyone's predicament is not of their choice.

This cake isnt for sale, its just to get people to go to this bridal expo thing. Get a grip. Its just jewelry stuck to a cake.
Sheila Oct 24th 2006 4:13PM
I had that exact cake at my wedding and I broke all my teeth on the diamonds and my husband left me because he said I looked like a tweaker. I'm really sad. And my Mom's cake tasted better.
Nancy Oct 24th 2006 4:18PM
The cake is a promo piece...smart marketing on the part of a Jeweler and a Baker or some other wedding affiliated service. As for all the comments made so far- if you have money to enjoy life (by all means do so) just don't step on people or forget that there are some less fortunate people that are that way by no fault of their own.
gloria Oct 24th 2006 4:18PM
First of all it is just a bridal show. No one asked about the Katrina victims, there are a lot more victims besides Katrina, some people are still suffering because of Hurricane Andrew, some people are suffering because of a house fire etc.... So lets get realistic it's just a promotion just like everything else is. As for the rich or poor everyone can't be the same. Everyone have their own agenda whether it is helping the poor or just spending their own money. As long as no one ask you to pay their bills let them be. There are a lot of good people in the world, just because one will spend 20 million on a cake doesn't mean they won't help the homeless or feed the children. I will spend more money on a purse than most people but that doesn't mean I won't help. How ever you came up in life is a reason for it, God knew before you were born what type of life you would have. Everyone can't be rich and everyone is not poor. Thank God you overcame Billy but I am sure there was help on your way up.Maybe someone helped already and the 20 million is the interest on their money and instead of paying Uncle Sam they decided to donate to the bridal show as a tax write off so that people like us can have something to talk about. It's not the money you give people, it's the knowledge you share with them. Money is here today and gone today but knowledge stays!!!! Lets go out and share our experiences and knowledge with a child, not talk about a cake.

Okay, Im sure the cake is no more than a thousand dollars. It's the diamonds which are expensive which Im sure are not going to be wasted. They are going to be sold and made into jewelry like all other diamonds. So this cake isn't that big of a deal. If I take a bettry crocker cake and put a 100 dollar bill on it, it wouldn't make it a hundred dollar cake, so for all you complaining that the money was poorly allocated, the diamonds will clearly serve another purpose when they are removed from the cake.
jim Oct 24th 2006 4:21PM
money, diamonds ,and gold are not living beings yet they are given more value then a human being. anyone who disagree needs to be thrown in the middle of the desert where there is noone to help them and with huge piles of money ,gold and diamonds. Then I am sure thier thoughts on value will change dramastically.
G.GARRIS Oct 24th 2006 4:46PM
THAT'S NOT A CAKE IT'S A DISPLAY CASE, A CAKE IS SOMETHING YOU EAT. SILLY RICH POEPLE
Christina Oct 24th 2006 4:30PM
I agree with Billy.People do have a choice.I'm stuck in hell but thats because i didnt get off my butt and do anything...not yet at least, but Billy has me thinking. The people putting him down must be the same stuck up rich people who probably had their money passed down and didnt even work for it
Erin Oct 24th 2006 4:29PM
Oh boo hoo for you Billy...not quite sad enough however. And Shame on whoever thought the idea of the cake was wonderful. Promo, yes but offensive...a bigger YES. Too many good places for that kind of money to go.
