Own the Real Haunted Mansion
Disney fans take note: the house that was the inspiration behind the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland is up for sale. The Harry Packer Mansion was built in 1874 and is in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, a town that is known for its appreciation of Victorian architecture. Despite appearances (and the fact that it is currently used to host Murder Mystery Weekends), the current owners assure prospective buyers that the interior "is anything but spooky," with high ceilings, Tiffany stained glass windows, marble fireplaces, period antiques and fabrics. The mansion is about 4,500-sq. ft. and is priced at $1.75 million.

michele Oct 9th 2006 12:30PM
You can see more of the mansion if you visit the mansion's bed and breakfast website. And, for all you ghosthunters out there, check out the orbs in the study, the red room, and especially Harry's suite! Cool! This is just something fun to do and we all need a little fun in our lives each day!
Elaine Oct 9th 2006 12:33PM
What's the big deal?? Haunted or not how many of us could afford that house? NOT ME

Sgt Hurst ~
I have nothing but the highest regard for those who risk their lives to defend our country, and I haven't talked to anyone who doesn't feel the same way, but with all respect, why would you want to begrudge a few people a quirky little interest like this? We couldn't afford it either, but if we think it's fun to look at and talk about, why do you care? Wouldn't we be a bit boring without some diverse interests?
Just because we look at inconsequential things like this, doesn't mean that that's all we think about or talk about or do. Most people make positive contributions in their own ways, even if they're not in the military... and I know for a fact that at least one serviceperson read this article :)

It is a beautiful mansion, and there are more things in heaven and on earth then we can, and ever will understand. I believe that spirits do exist, and do live in certain homes/and places where either something very good has happened or something very evil has happened. Maybe sometimes the spirits are there because the people living there may need protection. Just as their are good and bad people, their are good and bad spirits. Since the good outnumber the bad, chances are an encounter would be with a positive spirit. I would like to have an encounter, if it were benign, and wouldn't scare the bejeebers out of me :)
Good luck to the sellers of The Harry Packer Mansion. I would bet you will get your asking price, and possibly more if a bidding war takes place.

Fun Fact....the first few years DisneyWORLD was open, a young man was told to go clean up at the mansion. He did so....by wiping down several of the cobwebs before being caught and told to stop. This act cost Disney hundreds of dollars in webbing.

Anyone who says they don't believe in Ghost, probably doesn't believe in the here after. Ghost started with the HOLY GHOST and the rest of us who aren't so holy sometimes remain earthbound when we pass.
tootsie Oct 9th 2006 1:27PM
Kat-HAVE YOU GOT A LOT TO LEARN! WANT TO SEE GHOSTS? COME TO MY HOUSE! YOU ARE SO SURE THEY DO NOT EXIST
PROVE IT BIG GIRL!
kim Oct 9th 2006 1:17PM
i agree with the sgt! hello who gives who or what is haunting it or whos it was or whos buried where.. theres kids killing kids and we talk about a house probally none of us can afford anyhow.
Kathy Oct 9th 2006 1:21PM
Ok who really knows the true story on this house? Maybe only the Ghosts or spirits know. Boo!
JOY LIPSKI Oct 10th 2006 5:54AM
TO THOSE WHO SAY THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS GHOSTS, GET REAL AND BE HAPPY YOU HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED ANY THING AS OF YET, BUT ONCE YOU DO YOU'LL BE LIKE THE REST OF US AND KNOW WHAT IS REAL AND BE ALWAYS ON THE LOOK OUT FOR VISITERS FROM BEYOND. GHOSTS,SPIRITS DO EXZIST, PRAY TO KNOW IF THERE IS A LIFE AFTER THIS AND THEN BE READY, AND TO THOSE WHO HAVE BAD THINGS HAPPENING, SAY THIS"SATAN GET THEE HENCE ,I ORDER YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST AMEN" IT WORKS , BE STRONG AND KNOW WE ARE SAFE YET VEWRY NOT ALONE. GOD BLESS ALL! FROM NEVADA OPENING A ROOF DOES NOT REMOVE GHOSTS! I TRIED IT, USE THOSE WORDS WHEN EWVER NEED IT AND ORDER THEM AWAY.

I agree with Lisa that owning that lovely mansion is going to be an expensive venture. Is the wiring and plumbing up to date? How much is the insurance for such an old building? If it's a B&B that means a commercial insurance policy. I know. I've got a family home built in 1912 that we have in vacation rental. One good thing is that if it's on a historic register it may get a property tax break.

Hi everyone, and yes, this house is such a steal that i've already stolen it. My final offer was approved and accepted this morning! Wish me luck!
Teresa Oct 10th 2006 5:25PM
I agree with Donna, There ARE spirits or ghosts (or whatever you want to call them). They are all around us, as guiding spirits or spirits that are in limbo in their journey to "the light". Many of them do not realize that they have passed on and think they are still in our realm. They try and get our attention in an effort to get help in reaching "the light". Many of them are afraid of the state they are in and are afraid to reach that final destination because they do not trust what their next move is. In any case they are around ALL of us. Wether we are open enough spiritually in our minds is what differentiates the ability in all of us being able to understand this. May you non believers should at least give it a chance and educate yourselves, open your mind up to more spiritual evolvment and you too shall be a believer. Once you see a spirit you will know it is real. Some posters have said they have spirits living in their homes. Well guess what we ALL have spirits living in our homes its just that some of us are more spiritual than others and can see and/or feel them. If you do see any I would suggest you help them elevate by giving them clarity and light. Place a glass of water and candle somewhere in your home and pray for them asking for them to go to "the light" or if they decide to stay with you ask them to not scare you and only stay if they are there to help you.

To Sgt. Jerre Hurst: Sgt, just because someone can afford a luxury home does not make that person any less real than anyone else. And you better believe that we are 100% behind our soldiers doing the dirtiest job in the world. But please, not every discussion or blog forum is about our military nor should be politicized.
Jodi Oct 9th 2006 1:56PM
Sgt. Jerre Hurst,
I understand your frustration, but at least it's a bed and breakfast business which is a lot of work for the home owners. I have a much harder time with the athletes and hollywood stars who make hudreds of millions of dollars while our school teachers and soldiers are making pennies. We're a democratic society, but we've sure fallen far from the tree of grace!
Kimberley Walters Oct 9th 2006 2:05PM
Wow....nice, but how much are the taxes??!!!!! Would be interesting to visit, but I'd rather be in a nice little cozy HOME!!!!!!!!!!
