Own the Real Haunted Mansion
Disney fans take note: the house that was the inspiration behind the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland is up for sale. The Harry Packer Mansion was built in 1874 and is in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, a town that is known for its appreciation of Victorian architecture. Despite appearances (and the fact that it is currently used to host Murder Mystery Weekends), the current owners assure prospective buyers that the interior "is anything but spooky," with high ceilings, Tiffany stained glass windows, marble fireplaces, period antiques and fabrics. The mansion is about 4,500-sq. ft. and is priced at $1.75 million.

Sgt. Jerre, are you saying that just because someone has more money then someone else that they don't have priorities? That is a ridiculous comment! I know many people who support the troops with lot's of their own money! I attended a event this summer for fallen vets fund in which a very weathly person put on. He has 2 sons serving in the Army and both are in Iraq and he could afford about 40 of these houses! YOU are the one that needs a reality check and please stop being so judgemental!

It's a beautiful house no matter what the facts. As for what the Sgt. had to say, I must say, sir, that you should ask my Military husband what he thinks about what I should be looking at during these times of war. Do you think he wants me to think about the war 24/7? Do you think he wants me to show his daughter and son the war 24/7? Or do you think he'd rather we look at a house that is beautiful and perhaps spooky and fun to consider during Halloween? I know the answer. It's sad that you do not.

What a house! Jim Thorpe is from Yale, Oklahoma.

Oh, yes there is such a thing as a place being haunted. Having lived in a Old Country Inn in Scotland that was over four hundred years old I can assure you that place was haunted so much to the fact that my mother sold it.

YES, there are haunted homes! I lived in one, and before living in that house, u could have never convinced me that there are ghosts/spirits or whatever u want to call them, but i saw-what i saw, and no one, can tell me otherwise, and yes, it scared the crap out of me, and we moved within a month, the home was in S.E. portland oregon.

Houses aren't haunted and neither ae people.
Go to a Vitamin store, get yourself some Vitamin B-Complex, at least 50 MG size, and take it two or three times daily (read the label, some have PABA and some folks can't handle PABA.)
After a short time on Vitamin B-Complex your "visitations" will likely stop completely.
Think people, if ghosts existed, wouldn't we be overrun with them? You couldn't take one step without being trodden on by ghosts.

Maybe no toothfairy.. but there is a toenail fairy that gives quarters for each toenail you leave under your pillow, but only when when sister looses a tooth...Maybe no ghosts, but Santa is so magical he fools the adults into thinking there is no Santa....

Ghosts (or spirits) are very real...how do you think the legend of the ghost started? I would love to own this house and make it the death metal practice spot!!!!
Tony Oct 9th 2006 8:27AM
I love the house and I have yet to enter it. It's one of those houses you could admire for hours from the sidewalk. Is it plaqued with the presence of a ghost? Probably. I once lived in a haunted house and this is my advice for prospective homebuyers: stay away from the haunted ones!

Just to buy this would be good because you could make money hand over fist anyway you want. Many T.V. shows, or bed and breakfast, or basic any thing you wanted.

Jim Thorpe DID NOT set foot in Jim Thorpe, PA. He was only buried there. There was some controversy about him being buried in his home state of Oklahoma when he died in 1953, due to his Native American roots at the time. The city of Jim Thorpe offered to allow his burial in their town. But no, he never went there during his lifetime.

My husband and I were on a vacation and visited this extraordinary mansion. He took several pictures of the inside and the grounds...the weird part is that all the pictures we me in them had a swirling foglike surrounding me - one picture in particular looks like a white wind is passing through me. We laughed about it and said it looked like a ghost but now that I read that it supposed to be haunted, well it kinda freaks me out a bit.

I wonder why people get so worked up over comments on a webpage. I think its a cool house, and ghosts, spirits or just bad gas; I think they are just needing to sell it. Go see it if you want, if you get insulted by the thought, don't. Thanks and have a super de dooper day!

My husband and I were on vacation in Jim Thorpe several years ago and visited this extraordinary mansion...The weird thing that happened was that all the photos we took outside the mansion with me in them showed a swirling white windy type of fog around me - the photos without me were fine - it was very strange. We knew it wasn't a defect in the film and laughed about back then because we said it looked like a ghost! Now I read that the mansion is supposed to be haunted!

We own a masonry and historic restoration company in Upstate New York. This is a fabulous house. Does anyone know the condition of the brick and the foundation of the home? How many rooms does the house have? What is the history of the home?

If you have ever been to Disneyland in Anaheim,CA you would know that the Haunted Mansion looks almost identical to this house with a few changes. I have been to Disneyland many times and the minute I looked at this picture I could see the resemblence.
Misti Blair Oct 9th 2006 10:06AM
I think that this house would be really cool to go see because I am into the whole ghost things and witchcraft and stuff like that so if it is really haunted I want to go there someday to see it.
