Marc Jacobs Plans Home Decor With Waterford
Waterford is another company that is pepping up their image by partnering with other companies with major brand recognition. We recently mentioned their Robert Mondavi wine glasses and now they will be creating a new home design line with ultra-chic designer Marc Jacobs. According to WWD, Jacobs has sold a few home objects in his boutiques but this is his first big foray into the home decor field. Given Jacobs's love of the understated don't look for anything to over-the-top. But the line is definitely more modern than Waterford's mainstay crystal. The first objects will be in Marc Jacobs boutiques and upscale specialty stores next month in time for holiday wish lists. Prices range from $85 for basic stemware to $1,900 for colored glass giftware. There is also special packaging including a black logo. This story from Brand Strategy goes into a little bit more of Waterford's plans for for the brand and includes some thoughts from others in the industry about how successful an idea this is and whether or not co-branding is really what Waterford needs in order to seem more modern and relevant to today's luxury consumers.

EPSCALE is just another word for OVERPRICED. I saw nearly the exact same styled glasses at MACYS for about $39.99 for 8 of them! Sure they are glass and not crystal, but who could even USE one of those expensive crystal glasses without being afraid of dropping them!?? We should start boycotting these designer labels, etc. until they realize how ridiculously priced they are... but we idiots go out on a financial limb to purchase them, even though you live in trailers. Who are you impressing? I say boycott all designers for a single month. Then watch how fast their prices come down! ~ Fed up!!

First of all, nobody puts a gun to your head to buy designer items. With designer items, you pay for the thought and creativity that went into the piece, as well as the better quality. Most designer buisnesses are small, so there will be more cost per piece than some large company cranking out what everybody else makes.

$85 to $1900, sounds pretty high. Lets hope the designs are truly fantastic to justify such prices.
