$1.28M Golden Rocking Horse
For the kid who has it all, Japanese jewelry designer Ginza Tanaka has created a 24-karat gold rocking horse. The toy was designed in honor of the birthday of Japan's Prince Hisahito and weighs about 80-lbs, significantly heavier than the normal wooden rocking horse that it is styled after. The weight does have an advantage in that it allows the chair to rock much more smoothly than other types of horses. Although the jeweler is willing to take orders for more, only one has yet been made and is valued at $1.28 million.

This is a lesson on how to spend your money and save it at the same time, plus giving work to the jeweler
if they buy it at his price.
If it is a gift from the jeweler, Who is to say these Royal folks and the jewler do not feed hungry children and enjoy other philanthropics, as well as make good investments? Certainly not some of the commentors herein.

Dennis... poster #100, as an American I stand up for your right to say and think whatever stupid even hate filled amoral thing you want; as a Japanese American with many friends that were sent to Camp Manzanar et alia or served in Europe with the famous and highly decorated "Go for Broke" regiment I am offended by your ignorance and stupidity. Your mentality mirrors the Jihadists, not the American founding fathers.
What has any of this hatred to do with a gold rocking horse gift to the 2 week old Japanese Prince?

Magik...you said that being rich is better. Why is that? I take it as meaning that you have the money to buy things that you want, since you by no means have to be rich to have necessities.
Don't blame George Bush for causing poverty in this country...ie. making the rich richer and the poor poorer. I didn't see the Democrats solving the problem of poverty while Clinton was in office. They are just as responsible for poverty in this country as the Republican party is. Besides, this country runs through "checks and balances". It's not like Bush can just say "Lets spend a trillion dollars to solve poverty in this country". It irritates me when people believe the president is always at fault when things go wrong, when in reality the blame should go to everyone who is elected in this country.
As for the golden horse...the cost of it isn't going to solve the world's problems. There will always be problems in the world, and no amount of money will solve them. So what if someone spent $1M on some stupid gold rocking horse. If they have the money, they should spend it how they want to. I'm sure they have donated much more to charities in their lifetime.

Personally i am glad i'm considered "poor". I am richer then most and so are my children and grandchildren. I am totally happy with what I have been given and if any of you need anything , feel free to ask me:). You can have it. The prince has been given a valuable work of art, only to honor him, not to play with. he is a prince in a great country. Japan takes care of it's own and when I made the mistake of posting my 1st message, I suddenly knew I was wrong. It is a great thing when one can do something so special for one's child, although the artist is the one to thank. God Bless

What overgeneralizations and cattiness. Listen, folks, jewelers have gold. That is their job. He shaped his into something for the time being instead of locking it way, so we all take pleasure in looking at it. He never said it was a toy.
And no, not all poor people are lazy. Some are sick and some have had bad luck and some are women who lived their younger years serving their family and the money went with the man. BUT, some are lazy and many did not plan ahead. That is also a truth, and one our government (we are the government, remember?) was never expected to resolve. Read our founding documents. It is a gold horse. So what. Beauty. I have also seen jade horses, and gold Buddhas and platinum jewelry. Art. If you have two loaves of bread, sell one and buy daffodils, said the poet. Feed the soul as only beauty can. It is art to honor the long awaited child instead of the future emperor.

Are you all on this site to get angry? Why are you wasting time browsingthe site if you're going to aggravate yourself and yell at others about greed, aids, darfur. I personally use this site for entertainment, not to die quicker by boiling blood.
Get off the site and donate some time/money to the issues you're yelling about.

What a waste of money! I don't think a rocking horse was a good use of money for a child. What happens if it breaks? What happens then, huh?

All you "rich-hating" people when are you going to realize that you are just big whiny whiners for no reason? Let me explain to you:
If you are working hard and make $90,000 a year, how much would you spend for your kid's gift? $128? You probably would! If you were making $900,000,000 why would not the same logic apply? Many of the rich people started with next to nothing, worked very hard and risked everything they had to achieve their dreams. For many of those, money was just a side-effect of their determination and success. Why should not they be able to buy expensive items? If only thing that was sold were cheapest, bare essentials, where would economy would be? These people pay highest taxes and contribute to global economy, they pay for the public services you enjoy, they pay for your social security they'll never need, I can go on and on.
And to those who say "give to needy", who are the biggest contributors to good causes? Rich people that's who!
By your standards no-one should buy anything above basic needs. Do you drive a 2006 Toyota Camry? Not a luxury car right? Well, buy a 1989 Honda Civic instead and give the rest to the needy. Do you buy your kid a $100+ Tickle-me Elmo? Get a $5 soft toy Elmo instead and give the rest to needy. By the same standard a person who makes $10k/year should think your kids are spoilt brats!
I just hope one day I will be as successful as some of those noble people who are a backbone of the society and create jobs for you, so that you, non risk takers have a food to put on a table.
And to those who think there are only a few successful people, there are MANY MORE who can afford expensive gifts then you think. Otherwise, why do you think Amazon would have this diamond to their inventory?:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000F8KLOM/amazon.com-top-sellers-20
Because there are plenty of people who can afford it.
Sorry, I just get really annoyed when someone is judging a person without giving it a thought.
