$1.28M Golden Rocking Horse
For the kid who has it all, Japanese jewelry designer Ginza Tanaka has created a 24-karat gold rocking horse. The toy was designed in honor of the birthday of Japan's Prince Hisahito and weighs about 80-lbs, significantly heavier than the normal wooden rocking horse that it is styled after. The weight does have an advantage in that it allows the chair to rock much more smoothly than other types of horses. Although the jeweler is willing to take orders for more, only one has yet been made and is valued at $1.28 million.

WE SHOULD ALL PURCHASE ANOTHER JAPANEASE CAR ( HELP DESTROY THE AMERICAN ECONOMY FOR "OUR" CHILDREN ). THEY NEEDS THE MONEY!
Joan Lee Young Sep 28th 2006 10:23AM
All of us want to give the best to our children. Personally, I am not rich, raised 9 children and wished I had money to give them more luxury in life. So, if someone else has more and can give it to their son/daughter, why envy them? You just don't see the other areas in their parent's life that they are contributing to mankind. Balance out a little, everybody. By the way, I didn't see any sharp edges on the gold that would hurt the child. Moot point. Smile.

Can you imagine how many regular wooden rocking horses this would buy for the poor children in Japan ? Probably one for every child that has to be adopted from Japan each year as most there are too poor to take care of their own. Very sad and you can tell the
Prince I said so . CK

Julie Jones, and others commenting in the same vein..... I read all of the comments and my oh my. One, it is just a way to show respect for the new prince. Two, it will likely be melted down after the buzz wears off. Three, why do you guys care?
Quoting the bible, blaming global warming, starving children, and your status on the rich, is bunk. And our government bailing your ass out of a pinch, No No, and NO!! My mother brings in about the same as Julie per month and does she count on the government to make up the difference so she can get by, NO becasue I do it for her. Family should take care of family, not strangers directly or through the government.
I once heard that Bill Gates could and should give every man woman and child in the USA a million dollars. The question was posed "what do you think would happen." My answer is that one year later if not sooner everything would be just like it was because the "take care of me people" would sit on their ass and spend it with the smart people who are out working to get more of it. It would eventually end up right back where it was because the smart workers would make it happen. Water seeks its own level and the have-nots as you call them do as well. Today they have and would again even if given the million initially.

Just think if the price of gold drops back to 250.00 an ounce this horse is only worth about a half a million. The jeweler better sell it now or he may have to file for bankruptcy.

To Jack number 74, if you reread my blog, The cats arent mine. I have no home because I lost everything after my husband passed away. My friend has kindheartedly let me stay in her house, they are her cats, not mine. i have no animals. This is her computer which she generously lets me use daily. I am blessed and I stated later I was wrong for whining. I have 4 beautiful grown children and 5 beautiful grandbabies. they are all extremely happy to get even a bag of toy soldiers, yes, even at their ages! I am happy for the beautiful baby that we are speaking of. His parents love him very much. If I had the money to do it, I would have my own home but I am mentally disabled and unable to work right now. I wish I were working, I miss it sorely but it will come again. After saying what I said in the first post, I now know I would be happy in a tent because I have all my childrens and grandchildrens love and most of all My Gods! Thank you Jesus! May God Bless you Jack

Just because someone is poor doesn't mean they are lazy. Bad things happen to good people. Plus some people are not as much of a materialistic jerk as you to categorize all poor people as lazy. My wife works full time, I work two jobs, go to school full time, and we care for our 4 kids...we live below the "poverty line", but we are happy and now that once I finish school our financial picture will greatly improve...just a tid bit more information, I already have a B.A., just going for a speciality degree. So stick your poor = lazy idea up your pompous ass.

while I don't think ANY child needs a 24k rocking horse, it is the parent's decision what to spend their money on. People get the wrong idea about the rich a lot of the time. I don't care if you make $5 or $5 million a year, it is YOUR money to do whatever YOU want with it! Some people give to charity, others don't. End of story.
lifegazer Sep 28th 2006 10:36AM
This not a waste of money. First, it is more of a pubicity stunt by the jeweler. Second it's not really a toy to be played with. Third, it's gold, which means it is a piece of jewelry, that may double in price by the time the young price is 21 years old, although it will probably be sitting in a museum somewhere or melted down by then. Do not knock the royal family. It's just part of the royal jewels.

HELLO! it's for the new japanese prince! i doubt he'll ever see it, tho. how about you guys pay attention to what else is happening in the news besides the bad stuff and you'll see this for the PR stunt it is! and to all of you complaining about war and faminie and what not, answer me this: if your life sucks so much, how come you're on the internet? couldn't that money be better used to advance your life or feed the starving children around the world that you're so worried about. you're all just jealous that no one gave you such a nice, cool toy in honor of your birth. and STOP telling celebrities to save to the world with their money. MOST of them donate to good causes ALL the time! considering the cost of living in nice areas on the coast is astronomical compared to anywhere else in the US, they still need SOME of their money to live off of so that they may keep their jobs that they use to entertain US with! gah! and if you ever decided to get off your ass and go help ppl ON YOUR OWN, you'd see that the cost of saving the world isn't going to be helped by a couple of million dollars here and there. the cost of running charities and foundations is just as much as the cost of helping the ppl those charities and foundations are here to help. go educate yourselves and then go help yourselves!
i'll take 3 gold horses, please! :)

I realize it's a publicity stunt, but also agree with others here who think children should not be given luxurious gifts. Most kids would pass the gold horse up and play with the box instead anyway :o)
The best gift a parent can give their children is themselves and their time. My daughter's fondest childhood memories are not the material gifts, but the things we did together. Most never cost anything. Like the time we sprayed pledge on the kitchen linoleum, got a running start in the living room, and skied across the kitchen floor in our socks! :o) Or made a castle out of the HUGE box that came with our fridge.
(decorated with crayons, scraps and Elmer's glue, complete with window cut-outs that opened and closed). Or went on a walk in the fall and showed her how to open milkweed pods and send the little fluffy seeds flying all over in the wind! You know, The golden horse is worth a million dollars, but giving your child of yourself is priceless!

I just cannot understand what this world is coming to. You either are fortunate enough to own a solid gold rocking horse (among millions of dollars of other toys) or you starve to death. How can anyone in good conscience, own one of these? Oh wait, millions of dollars cannot be made without raping the less fortunate of their scarce incomes... I forgot that part for a second.
Diane Graham Sep 28th 2006 10:48AM
Once again people are down on the rich. If you do not like the rich or how they spend their money, then don't go to their movies, do not buy their products. It is as simple as that. Also, just a reminder, wealthy people are some of the most charitable in the world. i.e. Bill G, not to mention the taxes these individuals pay to support individuals that "can't seem to find a JOB". If they want to spend on a solid gold rocking horse so be it.
michele Sep 28th 2006 10:50AM
I agree the money could have been put to better use,the person who stated that the poor are lazy and not using their head has it backwards this article is a prime example think about it.
regena Sep 28th 2006 10:49AM
I am sorry did you say golden calf? No that is right golden horse not much difference.
Julie Jones Sep 28th 2006 10:51AM
To all the people who have downed me for my 1st post. My dream is to open a big home for any and all people who need help in any way. Not about the money. I may be down smaller in money then some but boy have I got Riches in Glory! It will happen with God's help and His perfect will. It's funny to think you would hate me because I have little monetary means. I have everything I need and want to help others! I am by no means greedy. i would give any of you all i had if you ask. I just need a outfit to wear and maybe some shoes. other then that you can have it all. I am blessed.
bill Sep 28th 2006 10:57AM
I'd buy at least one. it would gold investment and it would be artworthy. That is if I could afford it. Besides if gold prices go up it becomes gold bricks and gets cashed in.
Gerald Sep 28th 2006 11:13AM
I hate you all, I accedently read one post, so I read more to see if it was only one idiot. ALAS!! It apears to me that all internet posting people are just mindless morons wishing franticly to know a shred about everything. first off the freaking thing was a gift, second it's a prince, third you all need to learn to read. and finally if you have no intellectual capasity with which to contribute to a setting just don't say anything, you sound smarter that way trust me. Alright, my rightous indignation has cooled and my need for vindication to all that offence sated. Good night fodder.
