Now there is a new way to spot who the VIPs are at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Just look at their shoes.
Fashion Week Daily reports on the Puma Las Vegas Baskets, a special-edition sneaker that will be given away to the hotel's VIP and celebrity guests. There are only 200 pairs of the leather sneakers, which come in a purple velvet, gold-roped bag and will be available in white with green or black with red. The hotel's logo is embossed on a gold leather footbed and the playing card suits are on the heel and under the tongue.

You mean "suits" not "suites" although the shoes are "sweet."

hearing about "celebrities" getting free stuff continues to make me puke, and DEFF puts me off from wanting to support brands that think this ploy will reinforce their brand to the masses...

I leave for Las Vegas tomorrow. I shall avoid the place that gives free tennys to rich celebs who do not need them.
I am one of the peasant masses who keeps Las Vegas going. It isn't the all ready rich celebs that Las Vegas owes its existance to.
I agree with the writer who says it makes him want to puke.

I remember many years ago (back in the 80's), "Mr. T" made the comment on how when he was poor, he was in need and was treated like trash (I'm paraphrashing); when he became famous and rich, every store and resturant wanted to give him "free stuff". He use to allow the poor children the free stuff instead. Giving rich people "free gifts" is a turn off. Send me the free stuff, so I can give the items to my poor and working poor students. Giving free items to millionaires is NOT good advertising.

My guess is that a true VIP would not wear them.

Why in the world do companies give things away to the rich? This is so offputting. I wonder if they realize how much this turns off the 'common man/woman'. Very, very poor PR.

Hard Rock.... Sucks.... Bug time....
What a "loser" promotion for wannabees. They've gone from shilling over-priced burgers to the cesspool of Lost Wages Gambling. Marbury has his priorities "right."
Hard Rock.... LMAO!!! More garbage marketed to those who don't need it.

True, I hate when I hear about celebs getting free S@#T. These 50k gift bags at awards shows, I'm glad they have to start paying taxes on those gift bags. watch how many of those gift bags start showing up in "celebrity, all proceeds go to (insert name here) auctions". I do like my free suites in vegas though, but I'm not a celeb and earn my freebies.

Who is going 2 pay 4 these shoes? We are through increased prices in room rates, food, entertainment, etc. Do you think the money is coming out of the "Management Slush Fund"?
Caryl Sep 4th 2006 4:15PM
I am sick and tired of "give away to celebs" What do they do with all this stuff? put it into the back corner of their room sized closets and forget its there. I can think of several Kids organizations that would love to have a few hundred pairs of shoes donated to them. Then the shoe company can take it off their income tax bill. This would be a better use of their funds. (for the price of these companies could give three more regular merchandise)

Dont forget that all those rich celebs are liberal Democrats. Remember that when you go to vote. The vast majority of the rich are liberal Democrats. All the Celebs are a bunch of spoiled children.

97.6% off the public doesn't understand P.R. In Las Vegas it's not the $200 a day spender the hotel/casinos are tryiny to use for their promos. It's the high rollers! I just had 3 nights and 3 tickets to Phantom, "comp" ..lol My husband spent $6500 in the casino. The sneakers sound great, I might need them! Use to be the casino gave him the shirt( off their back?)..with logo. LOL

While I have nothing against being rich, it really is disgusting and completely inappropriate for celebs and other rich folks to be consistently handed freebies.
To all those companies who think this is a "great marketing ploy"...DONATE THOSE FREEBIES INSTEAD. This will go much further in good advertising to the masses.
And by the way...I'm doing VERY WELL for myself, thank you...but I'd never patronize any hotel or brand that falls all over themselves for the rich.

Celebrities can certainly afford to buy their own **!!@ shoes. Give the money that buys these ridiculous things to anyone you'd see on any street. I'm sure most folks would rather spend it on groceries or utility bills. Shame on Hard Rock!
Jeff Sep 4th 2006 5:18PM
Would thieves call a bank to let them know they're coming to rob them? Then why would VIP's wear shoes that would give them away, especially in a casino? Why do celebs need these shoes? Wouldnt' we know they're celebs without them? LOL! Marketing efforts today are becoming more and more outlandish and eyebrow-raising. Whatever happened to "outside the box" thinking? Sound like basic "shoebox" thinking if you ask me..
