GenSelect
While some doctors can help parents-to-be select the gender of their as-yet-unborn child, should they be interested in such a decision, it is an expensive and time-consuming procedure. For those interested in a less involved procedure, GenSelect makes kits that are supposed to help influence the gender of a baby, one for boys and one for girls. The kit claims to be 96% effective in "pre-conception sex selection" and comes with a money back guarantee. It's an interesting concept and, while less creepy than having a doctor actually choose a particular embryo, the FDA-approved product is bound to raise some eyebrows. A 3-month kit will set you back $439.

Really, you have got to be kidding me.
alicia Aug 24th 2006 2:35PM
Shouldnt we not start playing with things we dont understand...not that I really think this kit works
Dawn Aug 24th 2006 2:47PM
it is a little pricey, but knowing I only have one more chance to have a girl makes me want to give it a try.
..:mariah:.:. Aug 24th 2006 2:55PM
I don"t think this is right.....although its great that ppl are now given the opportunity to choose what gender their baby will be,I think that it's always best to just stay with wat was given to u...I think everything happens for a reason and if ur baby comes outa boy/girl its bcus it was meant 2 be like that...and u should take it as it is......
emily Aug 24th 2006 2:57PM
Good scam...they have a 50% chance of getting it right each time...........refunding the other 50% for not delivering as promised. At $439.00 a kit, just send your moola to me and I'll flip a coin. Full refund if it doesn't work out.

Isn't having a baby good enough for these people??? Who cares about the gender as long as the child is healthy?? Makes me sick...Learn to count your blessings!!!

It may seem harmless but take into consideration the fact that the drugs on americas market are only tested for short term side effects and then approved. In all reality there is no empirical evidence to validate the safety of this and many other drugs especially when considering long term use. Now I understand this isn't a drug for long term use. Even though the drug will be taken for a short period of time the effects will literally last a lifetime. We are becoming a nation, a world obsessed with control. We must understand that certain things should not be under our control and it is better if they are left to the natural way. I am all for advances in science and technology and human progression, but determining in a large sense the fate of an individual can bear drastic consequences. Whenever we as people alter the natural way things develop especially when pertaining to human life there is great and dangerous potential for complications and disaster.

As humans we shouldn't mess with God's plan. We should let it be, as it is. Next thing you know males will have babies. Something's should be lefted alone.

Hi Dawn I was in your shoes after 2 boys I wanted my girl and I got her 8 months ago and it did not cost me $400 it was free
Carla Aug 28th 2006 9:28AM
To be fooled by the market these days is sooo easy... you buy it with hopes of getting what u want and if it doesn't please u, only half is returned; and @ $439 a piece. . . even I can trick u & get rich at the time !
tammy Aug 24th 2006 3:07PM
i agree with sue this is rediculas, ihad trouble covieving and lost 2 babies. be thankfull your given the gift of pregnancy and be happy that you are lucky enough to have a baby and feel even luckier if your child is healty. the sex of the baby should'nt matter

It seems to me that this "kit" is all about producing unwarranted and windfall profits for the manufacturer. Looking at the "tools" I see a lot of plastic. Guess what the real cost was to produce the kit on a mass scale even with R&D costs thrown in? Not much money. And, a whole lot of profit. Not only that, but as "s.t.f." noted isn't this a lot like playing "God" with the most sacred element of the creation--human life?

For free, you can borrow a copy of Dr. Shettles' book from the library. It explains increasing your chances of conceiving a particular gender, 100% naturally. No drugs, no contraptions, and makes total sense scientifically. Of course, you still have to be willing to take what you get!
sophia Aug 24th 2006 3:22PM
Everything is in god's hands. We can't always get what we want and remember everything happens for a reason.

I DONT THINK THIS SHOULD EVEN BE AN OPTION!! I MEAN LET NATURE TAKE IT COURSE!! AND WHAT ARE THE NEGATIVE SETBACKS OF THIS GENSELECT??...I MEAN YEAH IT MIGHT BE COOL FOR A WHILE BUT WHEN THE BABIES ARE BORN PLUS OR MINUS SOME LIMBS...OR LACKING IN ABILITIES....ALL OF THE FINGERS ARE GOING TO BE POINTED BACK AT "GENSELECT" AND THEN WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO....GIVE YOU YOUR MONEY BACK..WHEN YOU OPTED TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH IT!! I DONT MEAN TO CRUSH ANYONES HOPES AND DREAMS BUT LOOK AT ALL OF THE POSSIBLE OUTCOMES OF THIS!! IF YOU WANT TO CHANCE IT THEN HEY....GO AHEAD...BUT A "HEALTHY" BABY BOY OR GIRL IS ALL THAT MATTERS VS. A BABY BORN WITH DEFECTS BECAUSE IT'S PARENTS COULDNT ACCEPT WHAT THEY WERE INTEDED..SO THEY DECIDED TO PLAY GOD AND LOST!!
Miranda Aug 24th 2006 3:30PM
Is anybody thinking about the effects on the actual baby here? What if the baby turns out to be homosexual because his/her brain doesn't agree with the sexual parts? And what if it turns out to be a hermaphrodite or something? What if it causes your baby to have mental retardation or be a paraplegic or something? You never know with drugs these days what can happen to your baby. I know I wouldn't take any chances. Just be happy you can have kids period.
Rox Aug 24th 2006 3:31PM
so, i sure hope then that this is for males to take seeing as theyre the one who "decides" the gender of a baby. i cant possibly see how any book on planning naturally will help either. take what God gives you no matter what.
Kittie Taylor Aug 24th 2006 3:35PM
If you want a baby girl douche with vinegar and if you'd rather have a boy use baking soda.
Anita Aug 24th 2006 3:36PM
I'm sure this kit is based on the fact that female-producing sperm live longer in the potential mother's body (about 2-3 days) but "male" sperm swim faster. Therefore if you haven't had sex for a couple of days and then have sex when the woman ovulates, then it will probably be a boy (because the "male" sperm will get to the egg first and fertilize it). If you have sex a day or so before ovulation then it will probably be a girl because although the male sperm will get there first, the egg won't be there and they will die, then the female sperm will get there a hang around a day or two until the woman ovulates. This is probably just a very pricey ovulation predictor kit.
Geny Aug 24th 2006 3:37PM
That is ridiculous, people should be more worried about having a healthy baby rather than it being a boy or a girl. Why cant we come up with something that increases our chance of having a healthy baby?
