I am a current third-year college student who will be living in a dorm this upcoming year. My freshman year, I lived in a dorm modeled after an efficiency-style apartment - we had our own kitchenettes, walk-in closets, and full-size refridgerators. So I definitely know luxury. Even in my more modest dwellings this time around, NEVER IN MY LIFE WOULD I EVEN WANT SOMEONE to spend this kind of money on what is, quite frankly, utter putrid crap. Who put this together? Ms. Weston, you either went to a very well-to-do university, or they've been paying you too much under the table for this nonsense.

Luxuries? All these things do is take up space, waste my time, and aren't even worth half the money.

The "luxury" that irked me the most was the bubblegume PINK caller ID. Don't you know that most phones *come* with caller ID right on the phone or the base (if it's cordless). And that comes all for $20-$30!!! It's not a luxury to have to look at a separate machine to know who is calling and then pick up the phone, not to mention wasting valuable cramming/drinking/television-watching/partying time!! What an inconvenience.

If you want to talk about luxuries, try:

1. adding other furniture (chairs, couches) - thereby increasing the functionality of your room from a house cubicle to a semi-living space;

2. central air conditioning that is individually controlled;

3. a rug so a linoleum floor with a temperature of near absolute zero doesn't greet you every morning;

4. CDs, floppy disks, zip drives, and an external hard drive to make sure the hard work you did on your papers doesn't go into the digital graveyard;

5. having an awesome computer/laptop to begin with (if you're talking about luxuries, try the 17" MacBook Pro w/ Intel Core Duo - it's around $2500!!!);

6. a good TV - like a plasma.

7. how about a candy/coffee vending machine??? goodness knows that college kids are up all night, whether it be for papers or parties. You've got to stay awake SOME kind of way (unless you want to push them to harder drugs);

8. What about that video game rocker chair that also plays music from your iPod, as well as sends vibrations from the DualShock controllers throughout the entire chair?

There. And i've only promoted three things. at least i know they're worth the money, and your college student will be greatful for it (they also wouldn't mind you paying tuiton too, parents!).
