It's been quite the summer for blockbuster real estate. The latest mega-estate to hit the market is Tranquility, an estate in the Lake Tahoe area that is listed for $100 million. The pricetag puts it in third place in the U.S. for most expensive, behind the $135 million Colorado estate
of Saudi Prince Bandar and Trump's $125 million Palm Beach palace. The home has its own private lake, conservatory, boat house, stable, gymnasium and garage space for 17 cars and 210 acres of prime land.
Inman reports that
Shari Chase, who has the listing, reports that the seller is the co-founder of Tommy Hilfiger Corp. The property was owned for a long time by a family that left it undeveloped but the current owner put in the main house and other buildings for a total of over 50,000 square feet of space. The property is on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe and the home includes details taken from around the world. The staircase in the main residence is a replica of the S.S. Titanic's and the marble flooring in the entryway is patterned after the New York Public Library's. No listing yet but Chase reports that she has already shown the house to an interested billionaire.

Not exactly on point, but I have to comment on something I just saw.
This week, 60 Minutes did a piece on "Vulgaria" or the insane race to build bigger and bigger homes. They went to Texas and visited a house where one bathroom had 26 foot ceilings and another house that had a 20 foot wide stained glass ceiling dome in the entrance lobby. They also showed, but just from a distance, a 70,000 ft2 house that had a palatial dome just about the size of St. Paul's Cathedral in London (well, more like the manor/palace used in the TV series brideshead revisited). The TV show, The View, once also showed another Texas 45,000 ft2 palace/house with a huge dome.
What is it about Texas and mega palace houses?

Do anybody know where I can find images of this house? Exept at inman.com?

I'd be a tad superstitious about copying the main staircase from the Titanic...considering what happened to it and all.
OTOH, the Nevada side of Tahoe is really nice...but 100m is serious folding money.
