Fur Goes Casual in Fall
Real fur has long been one of the materials of choice for the cool-weather clothes of the well dressed and the well-to-do. Even in the face of protestors, it has retained its elegance and you are guaranteed to see many women in furs out in New York City, for example, in the winter. Juicy Couture is trying to bring fur down a little, judging from the look of their Reversible Fleece Hoodie with Rabbit Fur. The cotton fleece hoodie has a drawstring hood and distressed seams, which contrast with its fur vest lining. Though reversible, even having the soft rabbit fur clearly visible does little for the look. Let's face it: you can't dress up a fleece hoodie no matter how much fur you put into it. The only question is to whether pieces like this one will spark a trend of more casual uses of fur, possibly eliminating a lot of the prestige associated with its use, or not. Price: $650.

I only have this to say about PETA: They are stooges of the Communists. They want to eliminate animals for food because that would put the cattle growers out of business. Cattle ranches are HUGE expanses of land, and this land is private property. Private property ownership is one thing the communists hate with every fiber of their being. They killed millions of people worldwide in order to eliminate private property ownership. PETA, the Sierra Club, wetlands lovers, and other liberal leftists have the same goal, to eliminate prosperity in America.
We must not allow these un-American cretins to take away that which we have worked so hard to earn.
Jenn Aug 11th 2006 7:24PM
I agree with PETA. Killing animals for their fur is wrong when there is a comparable substitute in faux fur. I think people would feel a little differently about it there was a fashion line or a market for human skin or better yet soft baby skin. Anyone willing wear their child as a scarf this year?
Carol Aug 11th 2006 7:27PM
I'm really sick of reading people's dumb comments about people who are against wearing fur. I am against it. We kill a harmless animal (such as a rabbit, seals, etc.) just so you can look what you believe to be stylish? I am not against the killing of animals for NECESSITIES, such as food, but I am against killing them for fashion. And the way they kill most of these animals is way worse, like clubbing a seal to death? And hitting it once allowing it to bleed to death for sometimes hours and days?! That is SICK! And it's pointless!
And deviasdad, if you spent $10,000 for a freakin jacket, you are an idiot. Think of the homeless people that money could have fed. I don't care if you are rich, you could have bought a car. That's just ridiculious. I'm sure the animals that were killed for you to have a jacket are impressed with that price tag.
Carol Aug 11th 2006 7:30PM
And another thing to deviasdad, about the whole bible thing...
If you want to go by the bible, they did a lot of things back then that we don't do now. Why?! Because we have the technology and knowledge to do things differently. They didn't have cars. Does that mean we should all get rid of our cars?! NOOOO! Things change. We don't need to murder animals for clothing, we can make clothing from many other materials.

This is for kal. Its not that we're "butting into everyone else's" lives, its that we're voiceing our opinion in defense of small defenseless animals who can't protect themselves!
maggie R. Aug 11th 2006 7:33PM
Cruelty of any kind is wrong. You can make all the excuses you want. Furs worn for fashion is pure vanity, folks.
Gerry Aug 11th 2006 7:34PM
I'm not a card-carrying PETA member, but I should be. If PETA will stop drenching old ladies in tomatoe juice and conduct more civil protests, I'll join in a minute. I hate the idea of innocent animals being slaughtered for fashion. I know there are those who disagree. They are wrong!
Gerry Aug 11th 2006 7:35PM
Yes, I know I misspelled tomator :)
Scott Aug 11th 2006 7:38PM
Since we started wasting petrolium to make fur, the animals that are typically used for fur have suffered from many diseases such as rabies due to over populating.
Those of you who don't like to be natural, go back to your veggy burgers and go ahead and continue to pollute while you wear man made synthetics
J Sep 2nd 2006 2:25PM
One word: vomit.
people are sick if they think this is fashionable.
Cindy Aug 11th 2006 7:53PM
Ghandi said "you can judge a nation by the way they treat their animals" That may not be a perfect quote, but close enough. Just mentioning the name PETA sure stirs people up. Wow! I honestly believe that people who defend how animals are treated in this day and age are speaking without any knowledge of what really happens. We would all like to think that animals are humanely treated before they are killed to eat, but that statement in and of itself is warped. We do not live in a time of 2000 years ago and this arguement is not about Eskimos's using fur. I support PETA in their efforts, at least they have the guts to take a stand.
chris Aug 11th 2006 7:53PM
damn thats a nice jacket. i think i'll go scalp a human and sew it into one of my jackets now for the "rough and ready" look.
kal Aug 11th 2006 7:59PM
for Chris:
yep...scalplocks WERE real popular at one time.
Let's make war on FUR. People: check out Webster on the net-bet there's more than one definition for "dominion".
Flower Sniffer Aug 11th 2006 8:11PM
Fur is beautiful...on the animal who was born with it. People wearing fur just look shallow, selfish and amazingly egotistical. If wearing fur becomes mainstream again, it will be a very sad commentary on the direction in which we are headed.
elizabeth b Aug 11th 2006 8:12PM
killing for fun or fashion is just wrong. sorry.
Ginny Reeser Aug 11th 2006 8:15PM
Maybe one of you should see how nature takes care of the overpopulation of a species. I think if you look at many people in Russia,Alaska and other nothern countries you will find that fur is a practical way not to freeze to death. When you think of wearing fur for vanity you are looking into a small circle of influence. Believe it or not there are many more people in the world than NYC ,LA and your narrow limited minds. Some people actually like to survive the elements in what God has given them to us. Maybe you would like to use more oil products to make more synthetic faux furs. Before you judge maybe you should live in the country and off the land. Criticizing comes easy. Staged animals in traps and working on an individuals "Bambi" complex are some of the "anti's" tactics. How many of you that are against trapping pay to have the land put aside for song birds, wetlands, research on ecosystems ? This is some of what hunting, fishing and trapping permits go to promote. So if you are against something put your money where your mouth is and help conserve the land by joining the Nature Conservancy not PETA.

I wrote to Juicey Couture and told them I will never buy another product from them until they stop the senseless slaughter of innocent animals..
this is part of there response..
'Juicy Couture does not hold a position for or against
the wearing of fur. As an established retailer of
premium apparel and accessories, it is our responsibility
to make available to our customers an extremely broad
selection of merchandise, all of which may not appeal
to every customer's taste.
Juicy Couture does not endorse the wearing of fur,
other than simply making it available to those
customers who choose to purchase it.'
Its obvious this company is for it, or they wouldnt be doing it...they have no compassion for the living and are only concerned with the all mighty buck. And I thought this company was successful..apparently not, as this is a pretty desperate route to make sales.
I suggest everyone that finds this wrong and disgusting to email the company and let them know how you feel..and do not buy from them if they choose to continue this pathetic act.
I guess they are too busy counting their dollars to care and show compassion. Since making more money is the only reason they are doing this, perhaps seeing a decline in their sales will stop them barbaric act from continueing.
They should be ashamed.
Travis Aug 12th 2006 5:43PM
I think I will pick up this jacket. And I wish one of you crazy PETA fools would say or do something to me, because then you would see what real crazy was like.
Travis Aug 12th 2006 8:07PM
How many of you people ranting and screaming about wearing fur have a million pairs of leather shoes in your closets? Or have leather purses and wallets? Or wear leather belts?
More than a few, I bet.

It is very disturbing what has happened to the fur market, and to our eco system. E.g. As you know the fur market has been destroyed putting many country people out of cash, not to mention the revenues from manufacturing, Distribution and Sales. So what some may say, as it is replaced with petroleum products. However noteworthy is that the destruction of the fur trade has changed, and is changing the the enire eco system as we once new it. E.g. In many areas there is no longer the small game populations of rabbit, pheasant and quail, because due to the increase in predation from no fur trade we have nothing left but poor starving predators. Yes in many areas the fur bearers are overpopulated, and dieng slow cruel deaths from starvation. We must remember that many of the furs come from rodents, a specie that has several liters pe year. Rodents, we are protecting rodents rather than harvesting them as god intended.
Not only are is our small game population in great jeporady, take a look at our waterfowl population in the pot hole prarie states and canada. (The place where the largest production of waterfowl in the world is at) To maintain present waterfowl levels there must be 20% nesting success. Unfortunately due to increased predation much of our our pot hole region is less than 10% sucess rate. Which means that the waterfowl population is declining. It has always been amazing that any person would base their decision on emotional alone, rather than hard data.
I really wish those people would witnes personally a large populas of cute raccoons dieing from overpulation disease. For now it seems only the true sportsman understand, and knowing and understanding the truth about our present state of the eco system really hurts us!!
