Fur Goes Casual in Fall
Real fur has long been one of the materials of choice for the cool-weather clothes of the well dressed and the well-to-do. Even in the face of protestors, it has retained its elegance and you are guaranteed to see many women in furs out in New York City, for example, in the winter. Juicy Couture is trying to bring fur down a little, judging from the look of their Reversible Fleece Hoodie with Rabbit Fur. The cotton fleece hoodie has a drawstring hood and distressed seams, which contrast with its fur vest lining. Though reversible, even having the soft rabbit fur clearly visible does little for the look. Let's face it: you can't dress up a fleece hoodie no matter how much fur you put into it. The only question is to whether pieces like this one will spark a trend of more casual uses of fur, possibly eliminating a lot of the prestige associated with its use, or not. Price: $650.

Well just to let everyone know, like a lot of people in this world i eat steak, use leather shoes and leather belts and I have the choice to do it. I think that everybody has the right to use eat and do what ever the wish. Everybody has their own way of thinking and doing things. If you would have a fur coat you would know how good it feels.

People we are an evolving species cave men used fur we have advanced to the point of not needing it I.E Central Air people wear fur as a status symbol and if they need to feel better about them selves by wearing a totured animal just remember Karma works! hopefully in their next life they get to experience the other side of the coin

Devaisdad, when the Bible was written people had no option but to wear leather and fur. Fortunately, we do have options now and as such, killing animals needlessly is something I don't believe even God would approve. The Bible also states that the Lord loves "all creatures, great and small".

Stupid. When they can't think of anything original it's back to something old. And vulgar.

People who wear fur for fashion outta to be obliterated. They have no heart, no humanity, and are selfish assholes.
Oh yeah, they should also be fed to great white sharks.........and be on the frontline of a firing squad.

How disgusting, it makes me sick to think what happens to animals in the name of fashion when there are alternatives " faux fur"
see what happens to animals in the name of fashion.

Wearing real animal fur clearly shows the world how ugly, shallow, insensitive, and ignorant the person wearing it is. Fur is forever OUT!

I remember a tape played by Heather McCartney, Ryan Seacreast and Alex Baldwin on CNN. Here is a german shepard wagging it's tail while it is chained to a fence in China. The man slits the dogs back legs and then the skin on the neck and litterly pulls the fur off the living shepard. Then he throws the body on a heap of still quivering bodies of previously skinned dogs. The dog, in spasms seems to not believe what has happened to it while it slowly dies.

Well as usual we have an uninformed public. fur products are a used all over the world and peta patrons try to stop its use. people who have no clue how and why things are used say dumb things like this. They are not killed at random, there is a fur industry out there that buys raw furs taken during seasons to keep there numbers in check. and thats the truth of it all. with out it, you peta people would be crying to get rid of them because of all the sick animals running around or taking your pets. As far as china killing dogs, there doing it because thay have a rabies epedemic going on. 1000's of people are dieing each year because there all sick do to over population. So becareful what you wish for, you may get it. The taking of animals is a great thing and if someone wants to where fur so be it. you have leather wallets and purses and leather trim on things, and shoes, and the list goes on and on. so think about it. If the oil prices keep going up , someday youll be glad to have fur or leather or whatever you can get your hands on. And the people you so readily ridicule will be someday the same people youll be asking for food because they will be the only ones who can survive.

Sorry people, just excuse Devynn. That is just part of the midwest mentality. I'll bring it!

I eat meat, but I can't bring myself to wear fur or real leather. Mainly because I saw 101 dalmations! Cruella was cruel and went as far as to steal people's pets just to make the "perfect" fur coat! If others want to wear fur and leather, be my guest. I don't really like it, anyway. I think it's tacky.

To the person who said:
That's one of the more inane comments on this topic. I had several fur coats (for which fact I am now deeply ashamed); I can certainly afford fur, but realized just what went into the cruel, inhumane slaughter of animals who did nothing other than be desirable to mindless fashion victims who display their selfishness and arrogance by prancing around in garb better suited to the rodents from which the fur came.
I still dress in fashionable, attractive, (and expensive) clothing. My refusal to wear fur has made no difference in my personal style sense, but has (I hope) made a dent in the market that caters to those insecure enough to think that a $10,000 coat is a reflection of their inner worth and beauty.

If anyone wants to wear fur, then they should be required to spend 1 full hour inside of a slaughterhouse to see the entire killing process. Start to finish. Start with the live animals being transported, then end with the skin being ripped off the sometimes still conscious animal.

I LOVE FUR. I WEAR FUR.
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THESE SELF RIGHTEOUS, PASTY SKINNED, FAT BOTTOMED, VEGETARIANS HARRASING ME EVERY TIME I WALK DOWN THE STREET.
I LONG FOR THE DAY WHEN I CAN WEAR A COAT MADE FROM THE SKIN OF PETA MEMBERS. LOL

OK, let's THINK about reality here. What do those mistreated animals on Animal Planet look like after being neglected, starved, and tortured? They look AWFUL!! Big clumps of fur missing, what's left is dull, tangled, and generally WORTHLESS to use as a fur coat--for themselves or some human who is wanting to spend $10,000 or more, on Rodeo Drive.
If you maltreat animals that you are raising for food or clothing products, you will be throwing away your largest, most costly asset--the animal. So logic tells us it wouldn't be financially feasible to be cruel to these animals as you are raising them for profit. No matter what PETA puts out as propaganda.
That being said, I havent told you WHAT my viewpoint is on fur coats, nor will I..I just cannot tolerate the STUPID logic being implemented here..I hear on the radio while driving around rural areas all these farm places that sells all these products for cows and chicken etc..vitamin supplements, organic menus for livestock feed, immunizations for the entire lifespan of the animal--alot of school children don't have parents being THAT concerned about their very own children!!
Just something to THINK about, when you are trying to have a REAL debate--maybe you would be more effective if you had some of the vitamin/mineral supplements that your average piglet gets in Iowa even if you were a runt...

Wow, Mary's comment speaks volumes: "Fur is a renewable resource." ...Hmmmm... and here I thought it was the warm, soft coat of a living, breathing animal. And what does not wanting to wear fur have to do with being a "petroleum slave" anyway? Fur, IMO does not fall into the "recycle" argument either, as do leather shoes. Use the "whole animal"? Right... what, after they club the baby seal to death for your pretty coat they dress the meat and send it to you to fix for supper? Have many mink and sable sandwiches this week for lunch? I'd rather kiss a wolverine than wear one, thank you.
Cavemen HAD to wear fur. They also had to hunt the animal, kill it, prepare the meat for food, and prepare the pelt for wearing - to survive.
Animals are not here just for us to use, abuse and throw away. That "renewable resource" line - I just can't get over that one. Sounds like someone that would take their red dog to the pound if they painted their walls yellow .. the dog just doesn't match the walls anymore, the colors clash. What the heck, just get rid of that dog and get another one. It's "just" a dog, after all, and they're renewable resources. (Gag)

I just tried to watch the video from the link that B posted and I was horrified. No animal should be skinned alive for it's fur. I watched for about a minute before I had to turn it off. I can't believe this is legal in the United States. Is it like this everywhere?
vic gobar Aug 11th 2006 4:34PM
If I want to purchase and wear fur, that is my choice.
Along those lines, if I want to clean my guns WHILE wearing my fur, this also is my choice.
Sam Aug 11th 2006 4:37PM
Listen, to all of the folks that think that they are good people b/c they don't eat steak or wear leather shoes and are totally against the use of fur you have no right to say or criticize other people for the use of these animals. Everybody has the right to live however they want. People comment like they let every animal live. If you see a roach, a fly, you would go ahead and kill it. What makes you think that they didn't have the right to live.
angel Aug 11th 2006 4:37PM
Fur is WARM. Unless you are a true vegetarian, and eat NOTHING made from animals, and use no animal products, than you should not post negative comments about fur. Look at your shoes, wallets, purses, briefcases, and leather seats in cars. Read the ingredients to some shampoos carefully. How about what's on your breakfast, lunch and dinner plates, desserts, too like JELLO!
