Fur Goes Casual in Fall
Real fur has long been one of the materials of choice for the cool-weather clothes of the well dressed and the well-to-do. Even in the face of protestors, it has retained its elegance and you are guaranteed to see many women in furs out in New York City, for example, in the winter. Juicy Couture is trying to bring fur down a little, judging from the look of their Reversible Fleece Hoodie with Rabbit Fur. The cotton fleece hoodie has a drawstring hood and distressed seams, which contrast with its fur vest lining. Though reversible, even having the soft rabbit fur clearly visible does little for the look. Let's face it: you can't dress up a fleece hoodie no matter how much fur you put into it. The only question is to whether pieces like this one will spark a trend of more casual uses of fur, possibly eliminating a lot of the prestige associated with its use, or not. Price: $650.

Awwwww......how sweet!!!
A casual look at killing animals for fashion. How very nauseating!!!!!
It's just perfect for those days when you want to look like a flaming retart caveman!!!!
Sal Aug 4th 2006 6:07PM
How ugly!
B Aug 4th 2006 6:27PM
Perfect response, Kristi.
Go watch how these *cough* "lovely" fur coats are made:
Watch.
That's just sick.

Get ready for more stupid comments and doctored films from the irresponsible petroleum fabric slaves of PETA. Fur is a renewable resource unlike petroleum. If you have a problem with that, continue to be a petroleum slave, but don't expect the rest of us to share your silly irresponsible attitude. Better yet,go kiss a wolverine.

mean people wear fur...
Margaret Aug 11th 2006 2:23PM
The caption states "distressed look"!
I wonder how distressed the rabbit(s) were at the time of their demise to get this 'fashion look'.
This makes me ill!
Mary DeCunzo Aug 11th 2006 2:28PM
How disgusting. Killing helpless animals just for fashion. Let's get out the spray paint again.
susie powell Aug 11th 2006 2:39PM
the cave men who wore fur were not retarded. they recycled everything. We do the same. We wear leather shoes. We drive huge cars that burn gasoline that we get from the earth. I do not see why we have to do name calling and each pretend to be superior our life choices. I love steak. I hate gas guzzling cars FOR MYSELF. I wear leather shoes. the animals that are killed for steak, and shoe leather and fur coats die in similar ways. But, have you ever seen a lion attack a smaller animal for food? Wonder why the maker made animals prey upon each other?
nicole Aug 11th 2006 2:39PM
why can't everyone do what they want. if someone wants to kill an animal to wear, so be it. don't do it yourself. but, there are so many bad things going on in the world. go find a real cause if you need something to gripe over. i am sure most of the people who dislike people who wear fur...wear leather products or eat meat, fish, chicken.
devaisdad Aug 11th 2006 2:43PM
Mary, if you get out the spray paint, prepare to be arrested and SUED if you ruin my $10,000 coat. GET A LIFE AND GROW UP!!! If you believe in God and the Bible, then you only have to search scripture to see that fur was used BY GOD HIMSELF and therefore was part of the reason for it's creation. So, I guess you are a vegetarian too? Did you know there are CRUSHED BEETLES IN YOGART AND CHOCOLATE? Research it!! Guess you don't eat ANYTHING. O MY GOSH, those poor plants are suffering as I chomp chomp chomp my salad too!!! They're ALIVE, you know.
GET REAL

I have to agree with Mary, going to stock up on spray paint. Why do these designers feel they need to sell real fur?Look what happens when they do.People protest and it hurts them.Look what happened to JCrew last year.We protested and signed and after they lost BIG sales, then decided to drop the fur lines. They were using mink, coyote, and rabbit fur.Who needs a hat made from mink with rabbit pom-poms?We are not cavemen.People who buy fur are heartless and have no idea what these animals go through.China is now killing dogs and cats and skinning them while still alive, then sell to america and claim that it is exotic. They kill them by the thousands daily.Even go as far as stealing peoples pets just to make a profit. How would you feel if someone wanted your dog or cat to make a pair of gloves?People give PETA a hard time, but if it wasn't for them who would look after these animals.

First of all - the Bible is just a story to control so those that believe it have no mind of there own. And for those that think that people who believe in treating animals humanely just have nothing more important to "gripe" about than this are sadly mistaken. See - we believe that all living creatures, even misinformed heartless ones like yourself, deserve a pleasant existance. I for example, wear leather shoes, eat steak, eat chicken - and I believe in the food chain. I just dont believe that even though Im on the so called top end of the food chain that I have the right to treat others cruelly. They should be honored for feeding and clothing us - not beaten with clubs and skinned alived and hunted for sport. There should be a respect there - not a feeling of power over them - because without them - you wouldnt be here - all fat and happy in your ugly shoes.
Brian Hoyt Aug 11th 2006 3:11PM
Mary and devaisdad, you are both in the minority. Obviously you cannot control how the animals whose fur you wear are treated, but you should at least be aware of the methods used by some in this trade. I don't necessarily agree with PETA's sensationalistic tactics (and devaisdad, you are right--spray painting someone's fur coat is a crime), but if the PETA video that B posted doesn't bother you, then there is no arguing with you--you are way outside American society's accepted norm of values and ethics. The only way to ensure that no one uses the brutal methods shown in the PETA video is to raise public awareness and eliminate the demand for fur.

To those individuals who justify the wearing of fur because we wear leather, that reasoning is totally flawed. At the very least, the leather came from something that was eaten, not killed out of shear vanity or just to show off what a high end consumer you are. Now, while I'm a vegetarian myself, I can certainly see how difficult it is to avoid leather altogether (belts, shoes, etc.) However, there is NO excuse whatsoever for fur. That should be obvious to the dimmest of bulbs. And that one person who brought up "cavepeople" ? Excuse me ? How much choice did they have ? Are saying you WANT to live like a cave person ? WE have choices. And the wearing of fur is a very cruel, vain, selfish and stupid one.
Berger Aug 11th 2006 3:26PM
If you can t affort the fur you are agains. if you are rich enough you are for. Then let people buy what they want including fur; that s life.
Devynn - i got my first cottontailed rabbit when i was SIX! HA! Aug 11th 2006 3:27PM
PETA is a bunch of misinformed, COLD idiots. i would like you to take your argument to the those North of the equator. hasn't anyone else noticed that those who protest fur tend to live in warm places? and if they aren't always warm, they aren't that cold either. they're also very overpopulated cities and refuse to move. so yeah, let's make everyone else adopt my stupid lifestyle b/c *I* it! bring that shit to the midwest and see what happens! or better yet, to our friendly cousins in the north! idiots. don't come crying to me when the precious animals that you want save so badly ruin your home with their overpopulation. oh, and lambs as many other animals are, are shaved for their fur and when it regrows, we shave it again. and we do it for the animal b/c if we dont' they will die. i also have friends who had a rabbit and their mother made FUCKING GLOVES out of the shedded fur. gah! it's not like ppl are walking up to these animals and playing "whack a mole" and skinning them alive! there are other ways to get fur, and when there is isn't, you can be assured that the animal isn't being wastefully killed. and to those that codemn other countries and cultures for the way they treat animals - it's THEIR CULTURE! if you don't like that, don't go visit them. but you damn better respect b/c they do it for us. if they didn't, humanity wouldn't still be alive.
jennifer Aug 11th 2006 3:32PM
i love fur. but i hate killing little critters. my solution... i go to salvation army, good will and estate sales. not only can you find beautiful fur coats cheap...but you have the satisfaction of using used dead animals. that way, they don't have to skin new ones! this is the only way i feel good about purchasing fur. (i am sorry, but faux fur does not do it for me!)
Susan L Aug 11th 2006 3:34PM
There is absolutely no reason to wear fur except for vanity. Its that old "Hey, look at me" thing for those folks who need attention. Whether you agree with PETA or not, we have no right to exploit animals.
Not everyone wears leather. Some of us go out of our way to avoid the companies that use animals products. Believe it or not, you can survive without meat, fancy cosmetics and certain cleaning products. I do it everyday!
Sam Aug 11th 2006 3:38PM
Kristi, whether fur is good or not, calling someone a "retart" just makes you look silly. Don't insult intelligence if you can't spell it correctly.
