Laloo's Goat Milk Ice Cream
Once you have silver containers for serving your ice cream, it is a good idea to get something other than the standard supermarket fare to serve in them. Laloo's Goat Milk Ice Cream is low fat, low in lactose, has no artificial ingredients and contains only fruits and flavorings that are locally produced in Sonoma County, California. The advantage to goat's milk is that it is naturally lower in fat that cow's milk, so the ice cream will still taste rich, and not "watered down"; reviews say that it mimics the taste and mouthfeel of ultra-premium cow's milk ice creams, like Haagen Dazs. Flavors include Vanilla Snowflake, Black Mission Fig, Deep Chocolate, Strawberry Darling, Molasses Tipsycake, Lemon Chiffon, Pumpkin Spice and the seasonal Chocolate Cabernet. Orders are a minimum of 4 pints at $8/pint, excluding shipping costs (it is also sold at some Whole Food's markets). The ice cream must be shipped overnight and will be packaged with dry ice to keep it ready to eat.

I have had this ice cream. Its available at Gelson's markets. In Southern California at least. I happen to be one of those men out there that just HAS to have a pint of ice cream per night. Cant explain it because I hate sweets. Over the years I have become quite the connoisseur of ice cream. Particularly vanilla. I base all other ice creams from the vanilla. If they cant get vanilla right I cant really hope they will get much else right. Im sorry to say. Laloo's ice cream just does not have the pleasant taste I look for in ice cream. It may be the fact that it is goat's milk, but the taste is off. Now I can normally power through most pints even if I am not a fan of it. But I couldnt bring myself to finish it. Even two weeks later as it lay taunting me in the freezer. I gave it a second try. Into the trash it went. I wanted to like it. I did.

Hmmm. Joey. The Wall Street Journal just ran a taste test with Laloos Vanilla going up against Haagen Daz and Ben & Jerrys. And ... Laloos won. Go figure.
