While new cell phones are always fun because we love gadgets, ruining them when a friend/coworker/etc. spills his or her morning latte all over it is somewhat less than satisfying. Sony Ericcson has managed to eliminate that inconvenience by releasing a completely waterproof cellphone in Japan. The
SO902iWP+ even receives calls underwater - although you can't actually speak into the phone that way. The phone also comes with an mp3 player and a 1.3 mega pixel camera. There is no word on whether it will be released in the US, but this would be the perfect phone to take on vacation, especially if you're going somewhere that you'll be spending a lot of time in the water, like a tropical resort.

This is great news - hopefully a model for the European market will appear at some point in the near future.
I'm a cyclist and I need a decent waterproof phone to keep in my jersey pocket when out on long training rides - normal phones get destroyed very quickly by sweat corrosion during intense physical exercise. I currently use a very old Nokia splashproof phone - a 5210 - and swap my SIM into it when I head out for training rides. However, I could use something a bit more up to date (with a megapixel+ camera, etc) so if anybody knows of anything that's available now or imminently, please do let me know!

I also ride a bike and play a bit of golf and would love to own a phone like this. In the summer it would be cool down the beach etc.

Waterproofing is a very good thing. My phone got a bit of water on it and it must have just hit the wrong spots because all of a sudden it works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. Huge pain.
