I once went to a gym that had those old machines where you would strap a vibrating belt around your waist to whittle your middle. It seemed so antiquated but the idea that you can vibrate your way to thinness is back in a big way. The new version is called W
hole Body Vibration and promises all the benefits of real exercise in just 10 minutes a few times a week. You stand on a steel plate and receive strong vibrations which are supposed to do increase bone density and muscle tone as well as help reduce cellulite. The newest place to check this out is the
Z Med Spa in Pasadena, California. The owner has a new blog documenting her success with the machine. The machine can also be found in some gyms and can be bought for home use. You can buy a personal one on
eBay for $3,500.

Soloflex also makes one for home use...and it costs $395.00. I haven't tried it, so I cannot vouch for it's capacity.

I own the Hypergravity Personal model and I've got to say, the difference between the Soloflex and my all-steel platform is the difference between kindergarden and advanced calculus. Soloflex slaps a little wimpy motor on a piece of particle board and sells it for $395, but you've gotta know it only cost them about $25 to get it made in China. These little ones feel more like a foot massage. Meanwhile, my wife and I have experienced tremendous results in terms of toning (her) and reduced blood pressure (me). I sleep a lot better and have more energy, but I feel like I'm barely working out! Plus, it's the only one made in the USA and the company reps are very nice to talk to. I'd almost say it's the best $3500 I ever spent!

If these things work, they'd be worth it ... I mean, getting a workout without really having to do anything! But really, how well do they work?
