For those who like the look of
a bejeweled insect, but don't want to be bothered with feeding and caring to a live one - not to mention the slightly unnerving sensation of it crawling around on your skin - an alternative is available. The
Carved Lapis Beetle Cuff, designed by Nancey Chapman, features a stunning lapis beetle on a 24-karat gold cuff. The designer says that the cuff was inspired by a trip to Egypt, where the symbol of the scarab beetle is sacrad. The cuff is 3" wide and the beetle, which is carved from a solid piece of stone, is 2.5." A fringe benefit is that it will last quite a bit longer than the living version would. Price:
$23,000.
