Platinum Weddings
We talked once before about the TV show My Super Sweet 16, where parents spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a teen's birthday party. The new show on the WE network makes those parties look like small potatoes, but at least it does so tastefully. Platinum Weddings is all about how fantastically wealthy couples celebrate the biggest day of their lives. With budgets of more than half a million dollars - compared to the national average of $28,000 - these couples leave no stone unpolished and no rose petal unscattered as they perfect their weddings.
Lana and Victor Fuchs star in this week's episode (which airs July 30th at 8pm EST) have a budget of $1.5 million for their Vegas ceremony.
The couple has actually been married for 15 years and, after nearly divorcing, decided that their love and commitment was too strong to be broken on a whim; their ceremony is a renewal of vows. Expenses included a $200,000 custom red wedding dress (pictured) with a 40-foot train, a reception at the Four Seasons and a 12-course meal for their 400 guests. The show will also feature dancers from around the world and, most importantly, one very happy couple.
On the show's website, you can find out more detailed information about some of the party planners and designers that the Fuchs used, as well as information on the designers that are featured in other episodes, if you get inspired for your own big day.

I saw two of these episodes last night (the Persian/Mexican wedding and the Mexican/Argentine wedding) and I have to say that in SHARP contrast to "My Super Sweet 16," I did not find any of these people to be the least bit repellant.
At no point did I want to throw anything at the television or wish any plagues would befall any of them. The events were remarkably tasteful, considering the capability of going off the deep end with such budgets.

I have to agree that I definitely enjoyed the sensation of not wanting to yell at my TV screen. As far as reality shows go, it might be a first. And it is loads better than any of the other wedding shows (Bridezilla, for example).

I don't begrudge these people their fancy, over the top weddings but it would be interesting to track them and see how many of these couples are actually together in 10 years time.
Sort of makes you wonder if after getting divorced, they would have spent that kind of money
