Diamond of the Day
If diamonds are a girl's best friend, then this 7.03 carat platinum engagement ring is a girl's BFF! (That's best friend forever, for those of you who aren't good with acronyms.) Believe it or not, this spectacular rock, which has a retail price of $55,000, is actually on sale for $31,750 at FutureFashionista.com. (That's 42% off for those of you who aren't so good at math!) The Platinum mounting is set with 142 round-cut diamonds, which add up to approximately 1.50 carats. The ring size is 6.75, and the band is signed by the designer -- one Sophie D. Of course, $31,750 is a steal in comparison to the amount of money spent on your average celebrity's engagement ring. After doing a little research, I found out that Paris Hilton's engagement ring cost $4.7 million, while Jennifer Lopez's only cost $1 million. I guess cost is always a matter of perspective.

Blech!!!! I do not care for platinum. Give me yellow gold any day and man, that's just ugly

This appears to be a green diamond. Has it been irradiated with cobalt to eliminate color zoning? In the case of a green stone, can a gem expert test for this occurence in a green?
Common Sense Jul 9th 2006 2:45PM
Some people have cents and some have sense! Those that flaunt may become scents after they are car jacked, robbed or what have you by someone in this day in time....it is not stated what quality the diamond is, and for some with no sense, they probably wouldn't care! I don't have enough cents to care! I would rather have a real best friend! Maybe some are given these big rings to have a best friend because they really don't have one or any for that matter. If they had any sense they would be marrying their best friend! I can't be bought.

No wonder it is only 31,750. Who would want a diamond that large and it be an I1-SI3, and J-K color. For those of you who are not familiar with color and clarity of diamonds. J-K is yellow, not the good canary yellow. The I1-SI3 clarity, you will be able to see inclusion, or spots without any magnification. What is worse, the diamonds on the side of band is high color and high clarity. This is a terrible contrast. I can not imagine anyone wanting this diamond, no matter how large or inexpensive. If your man has 32,000 to spend on a diamond, get him to get a high color and clarity diamond. It will blind you and you will be able to see the ring across the room.

The stone looks like it has alot of yellow in it almost brown it appears to be a j or k color.
cathy Jul 9th 2006 2:58PM
what is the color, cut and clarity???? Those things determine price as well.
Lois Patrick Jul 9th 2006 3:07PM
I don't care WHAT color it is, gift me with one anytime!

Whoever buys that stone will be wasting his/her money on a poor color and unattractive cut. Color, Cut, Clarity are three C's that are really more important than Carat(weight). Get educated--for that price, you can get a big, gorgeous, brilliant stone that's really worth the money. Check out Renee Newman's buying guides.

I'd rather hae a smaller but clearer diamond any day.

I'd rather have a smaller but clearer diamond anyday.

Personally, I think if you are going to make or buy a diamond of this size, the color and clarity should be much better. The yellow/brown that is being seen are little bits of carbon.

I have a 4.5 ct. diamond, recently appraised by the GIA for over $100 thou. It's not always the size, but the grade and color that makes it more or less expensive. Natural color or lack of it is always more desirable than one that has been irradiated. Do your homework and know your diamonds before you get stars in your eyes over size or price. Also check out your jeweler for reputation and trustworthyness.

Diamonds are a very BAD investment. Their popularity only makes a few people in South Africa very rich. Just try to sell one back to the place where you bought it. HA!
Jeannie Jul 9th 2006 3:33PM
This diamond isn't worth the $31,000 price tag. Its quality is horrible. Low grade, probably synthetic at best.
Geina Jul 9th 2006 3:38PM
The lady that was talking about the color and clarity of the ring rather than the size is correct. I got married last year with a 6 ct. princess solitaire and it is valued at $200,000. It is not as big as this one, but a hell of a lot more beautiful. You want something that will sparkle in the sun and blind everyone. I'm 22 and I decided to marry a 85 year old retired lawyer.

Not worth your money. Don't bother.

Anyone that judges a diamond by a picture, does not know anything about diamonds!

I don't care if it's a BLACK diamond this redneck gal would wear it proudly.

Ms. Metz's BFF is proof that a lot of these breathless hypes about something are just that - hype. Write about what you know. This stone is ugly. A big bad-colored piece of glitz. If the owner ever gets wise, it will prove to be an embarassment and will live in a drawer forever. Better a small good quality stone than this oversize piece of junk. Luxist, hmmmm. Remind me never to go there.
