Seine Chateau, Estate of the Day

Sometimes, you just need to go to France, even if it is only virtually. After looking at some of the real estate in the United States, the chateaus of France seem like an amazing bargain. Located 34 miles from Paris, this beauty was built on ancient foundations dating back to the 11th century. The home has around 3,000 square meters of space and the property has an orangerie and a church. The home has the type of grand rooms that you feel might need to dress up for. It is listed at 5.5 million euros. After the jump, throw your jeans away and step back in time.

This definitely puts the "McMansion" to shame!

That is definitely a bargain, and it's highly unique, as well. You certainly don't find estate homes like that here in Florida, at least for that price.

At about 11 million it puts our housing prices to shame, but how close is it to a major city, and maybe it needs electrical and heating upgrades. Wonder what the real estate taxes and heating costs are?

puts mcmansions to shame in what way? it's about 10,000 sq feet, so it's a bit bigger than your typical mcmansion.
however, the common knock against mcmansions (from architectal critics) is that they are a poorly built architectural mishmash. perhaps true in some ways, perhaps not in others.
But anyways, check out the crap rock work on & around that fireplace. it just goes to show that mcmansions are judged against an idea of historical perfection that never actually existed.

Check your math, this is pretty big. I had the same initial reaction. 3,000 sq meters is more that 32,000 sq ft!
The place sure seems like a bargain compared to where I live (Silicon Valley). If I could really make this telecomuting thing work....I wonder what Internet conectivity would be like. =8^)

I can't say for certain, but it's possible that erin was referring not just to size but to character. There is a lot of land, a lot of space, and a sense of history that one can't often find here in the US, and certainly not in a "McMansion".

This lovely building probably requires an army of servants to maintain it, and i'm sure the French would love you yanks buying up the largest estates in their back yards. Although Euro Disney has probably taken care of that honour already.
Ellen, your maths should be put to shame. 5.5 million euros = 7 million dollars not 11 honey.

I know what you mean man, for this price you can't get even get a mansion much less a castle in the southbay/pennisula. You could get a 6,000sq freshly built pile of crap. This reminds me of the 65,000 sq Carolands estate in Hillsborough (a tiny wealthy suburb of San Francisco)
