Father's Day Gift List: Top Ten Ties
Father's Day started in 1910 and though there is no record of when the tradition of giving Dad a tie began, they are the quintessential father's day gift. Unfortunately, the more popular ties were as a gift, the less attractive they seemed to get and before long, father's seemed to dread getting "another ugly tie" - as though they were often besieged with such ties. But ties are useful and, thanks to more than a few good designers, there are a lot of fantastic looking ties. Here are some of our favorite picks for Dad this Father's Day.
If Dad likes a bit of a vintage edge to his clothing, or simply doesn't seem to have completely gotten over his fondness for his younger, wilder days, Ben Sherman's warm, vintage brown silk tie with a geometric, floral pattern is one he'll love $59.50.
Soft colors like those on this Burberry Pink Plaid tie will enhance the look of a lot of suits, without ending up with the same dark red or dark blue paired with a dark suit. It will also look great with just a collared shirt and nice pants. $115.
From a distance, the Louis Vuitton Signature Tie looks like it has a plain, striped design. Upon closer inspection, the "lines" are really the LV logo running across the fine, white silk. It is cut slightly thinner than most Vuitton ties to achieve a more youthful look. $165.
This Charvet tie could be described as an updated polka dot patter, with blue circles on a yellow background, but the slightly metallic sheen of the silk really sets it apart and makes it pleasing to the eye. $165.
Another excellent Charvet pattern is a twist on a classic diagonal stripe, which is a good choice for a dad who likes to stick with tradition. The pattern varies gold and rust-colored stripes on a sky-blue silk backdrop. $165.
Is Dad a sports fan? Brooks Brothers Sailboat Tie has a pattern of elegant ships that are small enough to be subtle while allowing your dad to show off his love of the sea. If sailing isn't his cup of tea, you might be more inclined to choose a golf print instead. Lest you think we're only choosing yellow ties, this one comes in eight colors. $59.50.
You can't go wrong with the Thomas Pink iPod Tie if your Dad is a music lover. The pink, silk tie has a hidden pocket on the back that is just the right size for an iPod nano. $100.
If Dad wants to stand out a bit, this funky Pucci Martini Tie is a great choice. The swirling pattern is eyecatching in pink, mauve and black, but not so bold as to be distracting. $130.
We love how Gucci dressed up this solid silk tie with a small dragonfly detail. It adds just a hint of interest to what would otherwise be an unremarkable, if high-quality, tie. $150.
Designed and made in New York, the Filght Silk Tie has a lightly striped, metallic background with a flight of birds passing through. The design is understated, so it won't draw too much attention, but it does add a twist to what would otherwise be an ordinary tie. $90.

Nicole,
I also work with Brooks Brothers and they have just introduced a new men's non-iron stretch shirt with DOW XLA, the only elastic fiber durable enough to add stretch and movement to non-iron clothing.
If you're planning to feature additional Father's Day gifts, I think this would be a great addition- and it looks great with the Brooks Brothers tie as well!
