Inflatable Outdoor Home Theater
There is a certain point at which a screen can become too large for most rooms inside the house, but it is hard to admit that a TV can ever be too big. Even if the TV fits easily into the space, you might not be able to get far enough away to actually view it comfortably. The solution is to take your TV outside, and the Outdoor Home Theater looks like a pretty good system to try. The weatherproof 8-foot screen inflates with an air pump in only 4 minutes, so unlike other projection screens, it doesn't need to be permanently set up in the yard. Two "weatherized" speakers, safe for outdoor use, are included with the screen and can be placed to create a surround-sound effect.
Unfortunately, this doesn't ship until mid-July, so you won't be able to get it in time for a 4th of July party, but it will make watching movies (or baseball games) on warm summer nights a lot more enjoyable. Price: $999.95.

Projector not included =/
$1000...
how bout a giant sheet and some outdoor speakers for less than 200 bucks.
Marsha Marks Jun 9th 2006 7:45AM
This is cool, but I'm thinking, the Giant Sheet idea from Scott, sounds a lot cheaper. However, the ability to show all the home movies, larger than life, is appealing...to me, a writer, who hopes to one day make movies...shown outdoors and in theators.

I just love advertising.
Notice these two people are sitting in daylight when a projector is required...
I like the sheet idea better!

As an employee of an Inflatable company, this would make a great addition to our product list.

for $20 bucks or so i can take the whole family to the drive-in and sit out side and watch 2 movies, and the screen size dont compair

I bought a used projector on Ebay for $300 and set up my own screen out of a white tarp. I show movies to my kids and friends every Sunday night in my backyard. It's a great way to make the kids watch some classics that they would'nt watch on their own.

This is so cool. Lots of money making potentials for kids and adults. Small buz owers as well. Im gonna get me one of those. Even if I have to buy a projector. :)

The sheet works well, even better if you paint it with flat white or primer .The picture is much better that way.
Rachel Jun 9th 2006 11:27AM
I agree with all of the above comments. Bottom line, if you're going to spend a few hundred bucks, get a high quality projector over an expensive "screen". The source of the picture is what will ultimately decide how great the actual picture is. And a suggestion for those of you who live in swim & tennis communities, get all the neighbors to pitch in or tack it onto the annual HOA fees one year in order to include it in the ammenities at the club house or tennis courts. Great community builder and way to keep the kids safe and off the streets on the weekends.

are the chairs included? Who would want to watch t.v.
in the heat when they can watch it in the comfort of their ac? GET REAL!!
TOAD STOOL Jun 9th 2006 11:43AM

It all depends on the quality of the screen. The best thing is to paint a wall flat silver. We had tried the bed sheet thing once. It took a lot of hassle to pull it tight. Light passes throught it.
My friend had lent us a small screen to lug around for his uncle's cabin but the picture got's warped over time.
8 ft = 96" is big. Professional sceens are costly. I wish somebody had reviewed this thing as it could very well be worth the money for a number of reasons. But if the screen quality/gain factor degrades as you store it, people will be strapping sheets around it all the while too soon. ;-)

They want how much for nothing?! No projector, just the screen?! LOL! I'll save the $1,000 for better things.
If you want something more durable than a sheet (which ripples in a breeze) try rolled artists canvas with a white primer. I live in Palm Springs, CA and some of the resorts around here have been doing this for years.
Dan Jun 9th 2006 12:35PM
This is absolutely stupid. I bet these things won't be around too long. As I'd be waiting in line to spend the 1000+ bucks on it, I'd think about just bringing my tv outside for a coupla hours
Joy Jun 9th 2006 12:38PM
What a rip off! It doesn't even include the projector? I have much better thing to do with $1000, especially with the cost of gasoline and electricity now.
Ed Beach Jun 9th 2006 12:51PM
What happens when a good breeze comes up like it always does here? Does the screen rock back and forth? Sea sick city.
Debbie Jun 9th 2006 12:51PM
Oh great!!! It's a fabulous idea in theory, but come on. Try this scenario, you come home after working all day, can't wait to watch your favorite program INSIDE YOUR HOUSE, it's a breezy summer night, you open your windows, get comfy on the couch, Then, BAM!! Your neighbors are watching tv OUTSIDE, blasting their tv's and it's not just one neighbor with this lovely new tv, it's the neighbors to the left, right and behind you. AND they are all watching something different. You close your windows, but now you have to crank up the ac because it's getting stuffy inside your house. The neighbors are competing with each other for sound volume. You still can hear their obnoxious outdoor theatre tv's. Forget about going to sleep because these dolts are watching late night TV. Gee, just like living next door to a drive-in theatre. What fun, NOT!!
Cindy Jun 9th 2006 12:53PM
Forget all this stuff, one of our neighbors just puts his projector out the window to a fellow neighbor's side of his house with permission of course. Watching Ohio State vs. Michigan games are great!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chatty Cathy Jun 9th 2006 12:54PM
what happens when it is deflated? It will get wrinkle lines or cracks like any other inflatable toy.
Guess when u aren't looking at movies you could float on it or put some water in it and use it as a splash tub.
For that amount of money it must have other uses..
