Are you insane! Sure, it's going to be sick but soo much money i mean really! i would never buy it for $600 plus games = $60 each. im going to have to wait until like 2020 to buy it!
Alex May 31st 2006 6:58AM
The Ps3 might be more expensive then you think. The Ps3's final price hasnt been announced, but because the price to make a Ps3 is very high because of BlueTooth, the thing inside the Ps3 that no other system has that will make the Ps3 stand out. BlueTooth is VERY expensive to make and coming around 1000$ just to make a Ps3 may be a bit hurtful for sony if they sell at a low price. No one knows for sure, but i will definitly be at least 600$ at launch.

$600 for the PS3? That's ridiculous! And who in their right mind would buy a PS3-themed wine glass? A croc PS3 case? Is Sony just running out of ideas or are they in dire need of money?
zachary May 31st 2006 9:59AM
i have to say the ps3 is well over priced the xbox360 is doing realy well with price and game play and they are comming out with more accecories for the xbox360 plus check the price the xbox360 is only $400.00 and the ps3 is $600.00,but the xbox360 keep going down every 4 months while the ps3 costs just TOO MUCH!!!!!
Kate May 31st 2006 10:15AM
The PS3 might be a little expensive compared to the 360 yet it is a much more advanced system performance wise- that and well hmmm y did all those 360s break/get recalled- Maybe because microsoft is more concerned with making money then quality and pushed production to the optimum selling time = christmas the get me this mommy or i wont be cool time of the year
READ>>>> "PS3-Blu-ray DVD compatibility and a graphics processing unit capable of pumping out pixels at the hitherto unimaginable--for console gaming--1080p high-definition resolution level. For its part, Microsoft's console will use current-generation DVDs, with resolutions topping out at 1080i and 720p. That's still high-definition, but in a future where 1080p televisions will be the gold standard of HD performance"
and READ THIS! then go do some research! http://www.gamespot.com/features/6125429/index.html

What's wrong with all you people? You can't look a foot ahead of you? The PS3 has build in Blu-Ray system. Your pretty much stealing from Sony when you buy that PS3, a Blu-Ray system by it self is like $1000
anonymous May 31st 2006 10:36AM
the ps3 isn't overpriced! look at how much awesome stuff is on it! it has bluetooth controllers and can play blu-ray dics... 6 people can play on one of the consoles too. Did you know that the console actually senses when you move the controller, so you can control whatever by moving the controller around. can xbox 360 do that? I don't think so... still overpriced? i'll pay it...
steven May 31st 2006 10:38AM
$600.00 for the ps3 is a little expensive but its worth it. PS3 is so much better at performance then 360 by far.
jonathan May 31st 2006 10:48AM
Personally I believe the price of the system to not be that costly when considering the quality of the system when compared to the XBOX 360. The quality of the games and of the hardware that Sony has put out in the past has been no less than high quality. Not to say that $600 is a lot of money but for a system like this I was expecting as much if not more.
The problem with the XBOX 360 is that it is a system that takes gaming and gears it primarily towards adults, releasing games that have a T or M rating and that have some sort of nudity or violence while the Playstation and Nintendo consoles have released games that span a wide range of games, not just one particular base of people.
I have been saving up for this system ever since Sony first released news about it and will not only be getting one of these but a Nintendo Wii as well.
Ryan May 31st 2006 10:49AM
But do you remember that when the X-Box 360 came out it was just as expensive as the PS3 and no one seemed to have a problem with that. So what is the big deal with the PS3 costing so much money?
jared May 31st 2006 10:49AM
Also Sony's performance at this year's E3 was less then exciting, with Microsoft's second generation titles looking to be much better then Sony's fist generation line up of games. Sure Sony has some top teir titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 but these games probably won't be available at launch this november because of the lack of playable demos available at E3. Lastly there will only be a few million consoles available at launch meaning severe shortages and a lot of people are going to be buying more then one console if they can just to sell them on ebay for a few thousand. I still have a print out of someone auctioning off a 360 for $3,000 when I bought mine a month later for the normal retail value of $399. Microsoft has a good year long head start on Sony and I really don't think the PS3 will be able to keep up not with the pricing point of $600, factor in extra controllers, and a game and your hitting the $700 mark. I'll have to sell my car to afford one. This fall I'll be buying a Nintendo Wii instead.
Joe May 31st 2006 10:58AM
Bottom Line, people are going to pay. Sony has a fiercely loyal base, and although it's going to make some people cringe, they will shell out the dough-- ESPECIALLY because it will have Blu-Ray play back capabilities. To get that for the 360 you're going to have to shell out another $100+ anyway, making the price-points similar. Standalone HD-DVD and BlueRay players cost about $300+ anyway.
Mike May 31st 2006 11:11AM
Sony is selling the PS3 high but it's 100% because of the Blu-Ray player. Although not even released yet, the stand alone Blu Ray player is expected to sell at $1000, much like the original DVD players did. Sony is expecting Blu-Ray to become the new mrket standard and by implementing it into the PS3 they are making a huge gamble, hoping it will outlast the X BOX 360 and push Blu-Ray into the residential market faster. Blu-Ray's capabilites are much greater than those of HD-DVD but it's price is causing a big problem for many, meaning that the effects of this move won't be recognizable for at least 4 years.
In any case, I'll be buying the $600 PS3, not just for the games but the Blu-Ray drive as well.
Doug May 31st 2006 11:29AM
I believe PS3 is over-priced, however it honestly will not matter. People will buy it no matter what. Now i see how everyone is still trying to compare the prices of XBOX 360 and the new PS3, but why don't we wait and see what kind of games come out, and then decide which one we will buy.
matt May 31st 2006 11:39AM
Omg how are kids and teenagers suposed to afford this?
The nintendo wii is suposed to be $250 and the x box 360 is $400. The only advantage is that the ps3 is more powerfull

PS3 is gonna be WAYYYY to expesnsive, I'm just gonna wait a year or two for it to get cheaper, I know they put alot into it but I about to pay no 600$ bucks for a PS3, Yes I'm a hardcore gamer and all but 600$ bucks is WAY out of my league, Just imagine what you could do with that kind of money, 600$ you can do alot with it instead of buying the PS3, but I'm sure I'll get it later on.
Jake May 31st 2006 11:44AM
yeah but rember standard DVD players cost #150 plus back in the day when the PS2 released? adding gimmick functions not relevant to gaming at the cost of performace and price is not a good idea. sure if you advertise them you'll hype it enough to sell a few more units, but what about 2-3 years from now? you by a better DVD player than the one inside the PS2 for $30-$40. Was it worth the buy, not really. Also, Does anyone use thier PSP to play music, or are going to buy that ridiculous 4 GB hard drive add-on? I love my Ipod, and others have microsoft base players that cost less than half the PSP and store 20 GB. Id stick with the XBox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. combined same price, more quality gaming, and you wont be coaxed into buying stupid accessories and gimmicks to play games (online adaptors, hard drvies, splitters, special controllers, DDR mats). Neverthe less a considerable base will buy a PS3, and perhaps a ton of the acessories they will undoubtably need to continue playing, and I dont blame them, considering the graphics on the machine. But somewhere the line has to be drawn, and many consumers and developers are jumping ship early on this money game sony is playing and defecting to the other guys.
djsmalls May 31st 2006 12:05PM
You guys do realize that X-Box 360's expected life span is the standard 4 years, then another gaming system will be released by Microsoft. This is a standard cycle. The ps3 on the other hand will be Sony's only gaming system for the next 10 years. That means their system will have to have technology that will still be the standard ten years from now. This is the main reason why the ps3 will cost so much. You are really buying technology that will be the standard in 5 years or so. Blu Ray players alone cost $1000, a ps3 costs $600, you are pretty much stealing from sony if you buy a ps3 because it has a built in blu ray player. not to mention all of the other stuff it has ALONG with complete backward compatibility to ps2 and ps1..
Stephie May 31st 2006 12:14PM
$600!!!!! Well I guess you have to look at some important. To go out and buy the system right after release would be stupid.... one: the price two:the first few months of any major system is a bit shakey... usually there a still bugs present (x-box360 for example) so after the inital release the price should go down and all the kinks should be smoothed out.... then GAME TIME!!! And if the prices still don't go down the game system is still worth it. This is the next generation of gaming that not even the 360 can compare to. Now the problem comes during the wait for the release... well at least I can put away money for it.
Dru May 31st 2006 12:23PM
The PS3 is overpriced for it's market. Gamers aren't getting older, however these same gamers who play these systems aren't getting richer, either. $600 for a child of twelve or fourteen who wants to enjoy gaming is ridiculous. A child can't afford to own the system and a parent wouldn't pay that price; not even at Christmas. Sony has made this system too high-end for it's own fans.
