Private Party at the Burj Al Arab
The Burj Al Arab has been rented out for the next three days, all 18 floors of the sail-shaped, seven star hotel, at a cost of $1.8 million. Supermodel Naomi Campbell is footing the bill, celebrating her 36th birthday party with 72 hours of partying with a star-studded guest list and her millionaire boyfriend Badr Jafar. The hotel was recently upgraded from its status as a six star hotel to become the world's first seven star hotel and one can assume that the high standards of service will be upheld throughout Campbell's party.

Seems funny to me with so much money, she couldn't just simply find a better way to have a birthday party, how about sharing the 1.8 billion with someone who would never have the chance to even get a present for thiers.. rich people just make me sick.
Mychaeltodd of Columbus Ohio! May 21st 2006 8:25PM
Baby, don't hate....get encouraged to do something grand for yourself or others. Everyone is rich, if you can understand what a rich life details, you'll understand how simple being rich means. Money is only one way of being rich, it's not the only way. "Get Lifted" Girl and do something about your life that benefits you and maybe others.
LEH May 21st 2006 8:51PM
if rich people make you sick, then why do you hang around luxist dreaming of becoming rich so you can buy/do all of these great things?
Troll somewhere else.

I love it, she throws a party for herself. She has new friends this year. I hope she does not invite P Diddy, Flavio, all of the the hangers ons.
Naomi gives thousands of dollars to a lot of charities, so she should enjoy some of the fruits of her labor. Don't hate!

@ Dawn
it was 1.8 million not billion. And as for hating rich people and what they do with their money, why do you read this blog? :)
If that makes you sick, how does the over £200m private jumbo jet make you feel? ^_^
I wish I could rent the Burj, I guess I'll have to settle for a hotel room.

There is nothing wrong with Naomi celebrating her birthday and spending a money doing it. Hey look; we all like to splerge and overspend on ourselves once and a while ask anyone who goes shopping when they get paid and they are doing the same. With Naomi she earns more; I don't know how much she earns and I really don't care personally but when you earn more you tend to spend more becuase its the life style you live. For example; if you work minimum wage and make $15,000 annually you won't spend as much as someone who earns $50,000 annually and its not because either person is rich; its more becuase of what each person is use to and yet they both often will do things to enjoy themselves.
If Naomi spends $2,000,000 on her birthday fine as long as she doesn't go in debt or be irresponsible and pick up crazy habits or do something with the wrong people then its fine its her birthday; one day a year. She gives away a ton a money and no one talks about that. She helps alot of people in South Africa, Brasil, etc especially children who need help because they are ill sometimes deathly ill and no one has an issue with that. What I also want to mention is that when she helps people she doesn't advertise it so people will say oooh look at how good Naomi is she does it quietly and the press may know about it but they don't make a big deal about and she doesn't really push the issues because believe it or not she has good heart. I could see it being an issue if someone spent money like $2,000,000 on a party and they don't help anybody at all and alot of people are like that but this is not the case with her so if she wants to spend a little; cool.
I personally have some issues with the location and the setting of the party myself but not the money because real wealth isn't about money anyway and if you think it is you'll spend your whole wanting something that can't make you happy. Alot of wealthy people are happy just like alot of poor aren't always happy; and you can lose all so fast. Trust me money exposes you to different things; all of which are not good and some are good but it doesn't promise anything; not wealth, not life, not peace, not security from crime becuase last year someone stole her clothes, it guarentees nothing.
I'm not so sure the location was all that great a idea because its a little to close to Persian Gulf to be high profile but the place is a top choice. Hey; give her a break guys

If that's how she wants to spend her money, fine. My issue is the claim that The Burj is a 7 star hotel. Unless I missed some special edition of the Mobil guide, that's a number they just made up. I've seen pictures, and find this to be a place only Trump could love, and I would assume that when Trump finishes building in Dubai he'll claim to have completed the world's first 21 star hotel, that's right 3 times the hotel that the Burj is. As far as I'm concerned the Burj has simply pulled a Spinal Tap and made their amps go to 11.
Paul May 22nd 2006 12:33PM
Who decided the Burj was 7 stars, oh yeah, they declared themselves that. It's a designation that doesn't exist. Hey Burj, I got some amplifiers to sell you, they go to 11, so they're one louder, just like you're two stars better than the Peninsula in Hong Kong.
david May 22nd 2006 4:24PM
i have no problem with this. however it is funny because half of the star studded guest list will show up somewhere telling us to donate for poor kids around the world. This is just another example of how the rich have to go above and beyond to make themselves feel good. I may never have the money these people have but i bet i'm alot happier then just about all of them. This whole thing is as stupid as the mtv show my super sweet 16. any one who need to spend 1.8 million so they can feel good should learn about weed.
tim May 22nd 2006 7:01PM
fact is its not a bday party and u shouldnt always believe what u read. its a holiday for naomi and alot of free advertising for the hotel so it can let the 'world' know its now a 7 star hotel. being rich means using people shes using her boyfriend for money and hes using her for the publicity. if he was a poor camel herder arab i doubt she would even talk to him. money does silly things to people but it all comes down to hype and advertising...... without oil dubai is nothing and it will never match monaco becoz u cant buy taste u either have it or u dont and naomi and dubai dont have it..... btw dont bark back this is my opinion on the article and not on anyones post.
finn May 23rd 2006 6:48PM
have you been to this place? it is fantastic, the beach.. everything. you should see it and experience it before you say it doesnt deserve 7 stars
Dick May 24th 2006 10:11AM
Actually it is her birthday.
Sean G May 25th 2006 3:57AM
Happy Birthday Girl - wish you all the best

Aja May 28th 2006 2:14PM
If i could, i too would spend 1.8 million on my b-day.
You are only 36 once so live it up girl and shake those haters off. and who the heck are we to judge how she spends? She made the money not you.

I must say that the society that encourages the accumulation of more and more stuff, is a society that
can never fill the hole inside of them. I am not
jealous, in fact I feel sorry for someone who lives in such a bubble that they cannot see how sick their behavior can be viewed by others. The post before that
talks about having a "rich life," is correct. One can have a very rich life with very little material things, or one can have very many material things, and have an empty life. Personally, I think she must be a very small woman that would need this kind of attention praised on her for her birthday, but of course it is her right. I personally wish that the media would focus on the good things that people do in society and not all the stuff they can acquire.
The only true happiness comes from giving of our selves and our time to those who have less than us, or who need us, all other pleasures of the flesh are
fleeting and temporary. Thank you to all the soldiers who are some of the real heros in society on this Memorial Day weekend.
Judy May 28th 2006 2:29PM
Why is she a samll woman ? She earned the money and has a right to spend it and it is a fat the she gives to many differnt causes. These stars that are asking us to give to different things have already given. Does this mean they must fork over all their money because we cannot match the amount they gave?
Why is it SICK to give yourself a big bash that you can afford? Judgement by those that don't have that kind of money is a joke. No one knows where other people find their happiness maybe we find it in a hot fudge sundae and they in a big party who are we to judge?
Dave May 28th 2006 2:50PM
1.8 million , what a waste of money.how about doing something for those less fortunate with that money.anyone who spends that kind of money on a birthday party fot them selves is just a shallow insecure person.
Jean May 28th 2006 3:07PM
When someone with money spends money, there is a trickle doWwn effect, from the limo drivers, to the seamstresses making the gowns, to the waiters and waitresses, to the dish washers, to the maids. Each favor purchased for the guests, must have been made by someone. It is her money, she does donate to many great causes, why do you feel that she should give it all away? I prefer that people actually work for the money. If you don't have money to help others, you can donate your time to build-up your community. I found time when I was a single mom and working 2 jobs.
Jon Adams May 28th 2006 3:24PM
Whatever!! Who really cares???
Jacqeline May 28th 2006 3:33PM
To me, that's a hell of a lot of money to spend on a party. To her, it's not. It depends on the amount of money one makes. I wonder what would be going through my mind if i was as rich as her. maybe i'd do the same thing, or maybe my conscience would not let me. i can't say either way, because ultimately i can't tell unless i really am in a financial situation equal to hers. But i think that i would not be able to bear spending all that and knowing that it could have changed so many lives otherwise. I do think she is overindulging.
