La Mer Face Serum
You might question her judgment on fashion, men and musical tastes, but when it comes to her choices in pricey beauty products, Jennifer Lopez only picks winners. A case in point in her love of La Mer cosmetics.Powered by some kind of mysterious unnamed "broth", La Mer's lifting face serum and intensifer are, according to devotees like J.Lo, worth every penny.
The serum, which is applied beneath your moisturizer is created through blue algae bio-fermentation. Though it sounds yucky, blue algae has a remarkable capacity for restoring the skin's smoothness and clarity.
La Mer's intensifier is designed to boost the lifting benefits of The Lifting Face Serum with Azurite, a crystalline material formed in sea beds. As The Lifting Intensifier is absorbed over time, the mesh-like collagen and elastin uphold the skin.
Still, blue algae is a little weird, and I have to wonder where they got that special algae from, because at $285, it sure can't be from the pond in my local park.

I'm split between thinking that this is in fact a great product and the price simply reflects its value, and also thinking that the price is just a gimmick to earn a certain level of exclusivity and brand imagine. I guess without trying it I'll never know!

I'm with you, Rick. I once asked for a sample at the cosmetics counter, just to see, and I was promptly refused by the salesperson. However, La Mer usually has unmonitored samples jars in duty free shops, so even if you can try it at home, you can try it until your heart is content at the airport.

The Butterscotch Stallion insists on having it - according to gossip.
They are available in more 'affordable' sizes ($115). I wasn't sure whether I should put the intensifier or the serum on first, so they are sitting in my kit unused. It was the cost that prohibited experimentation.
Moral: If you are going to throw money at your crowsfeet, don't chicken out.

Well, if it's good enough for Owen Wilson, then by golly, it's good enough for me!
Good moral, Dobey, I guess the other lesson to learn is serum first, intensifier second.

When working at Neiman Marcus, we were constantly bombarded with requests for La Mer samples. As with many other extremely high end cosmetics products, samples jars/packets are very few and far between.
It struck me as odd that ladies got very upset at the notion that samples weren't offerened for this premium product.

Sorry, but this product sounds pretty LAME(r) to me. At least N.V. Perricone has proven results and ISN'T endorsed by J-Lo...and I thought that line was expensive....
