NorthPark Center Expands in Dallas
This past weekend in Dallas, NorthPark Center unveiled its $200 million expansion to throngs of shoppers who came to take in the sights and leave with a bit less in the wallet. NorthPark Center is one of several upscale shopping venues in the DFW Metroplex, with this expansion however, it can be assured that it sits at the top of the luxury heap. What began as one of the nation's first indoor shopping malls, NorthPark has grown into a premier shopping destination in Dallas. The clean, mid-century modern design is soothing and highlights sculpture from the Nasher Sculpture Center placed throughout the wide arcades. Find out what makes NorthPark Center the best shopping in Dallas after the jump.
Yes, the wide spaces of NorthPark Center are devoid of carts selling belt buckles, hair extensions, or some sort of smelly hand cream. The shopping here is a pure pleasure with a variety of stores. An awesome Nordstrom has many designer labels such as Bagley Mishka and Christian Louboutin, that most Nordstrom stores lack. But the big draw at NorthPark is the Neiman Marcus mothership. Sure, the downtown Dallas location may be the most famous, but the NorthPark store is the number 1 store in sales nationwide. With a great mens shop and plenty of room for a Louis Vuitton boutique, this Neiman is certainly worth a visit.

Outside of the anchor department stores, NorthPark has plenty of boutiques to browse. Burberry, Billy Reid, Juicy Couture, Tiffany & Co, and Ralph Lauren. The new expansion created a courtyard in the middle of the center. This area has been dubbed the "central park" and is a pleasant respite from all the shopping. This 1.3 acre park has a massive safety pin sculpture as a feature on the large lawn. The expansion added 110 new stores, a 15 screen movie theater, and 220,000 square feet of space.

The Central Park is a quiet garden with a quirky art feature.

But is it art?

This isn't your normal mall.
All in all, NorthPark Center remains the top luxury shopping destination in North Texas. Where else can you shop and admire fine works of art by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. The selection of stores is superb with little room for improvement, but even more is on the way! Later this year, Barneys New York will be opening its only store in Texas right here. Other stores in the works include Michael Kors, Lily Pulitzer, and Salvatore Ferragamo. On you next trip to the Big D, stop by and part with some cash. You won't regret it.

The new two story section of the mall continues the clean modern lines from the original 1965 structure seen below.
