Charles Tyrwhitt Shirts
New luxury review blog Spungle recently checked out the shirts of Charles Tyrwhitt and came away seriously impressed. Charles Tyrwhitt makes a variety of shirts and offers a high level of customization. You can pick out your favorite fabric and style and then get a bunch of shirts made at one. Spungle checked out a couple of shirts including the non-iron classic which resists both wrinkles and stains and the Sea Islands shirts which can be worn as both formal attire and daily work shirts. They also do women's shirts and suits as well as tiny shirts for boys and girls that are adorably perfect in each scaled-down detail. My favorite is the blue Hibiscus print for little boys. So perfect for summer, it sells for $26.25.

On Jermyn Street, Charles Tyrwhitt is good, Hilditch & Key is better, Turnbull & Asser is best.

I used to own many Charles Tyrwhitt shirts. I personally don't like them. The best London shirtmaker for your money is T.M. Lewin (www.tmlewin.com).

It would be interesting to know when Jonathan last bought shirts from tyrwhitt. I know they had issues in the past, but I must have thirty of them and they are fantastic in every way. Much better than Hilditch & Key. Not sure about Turnbulls

Hey Nick,
I bought a bunch of shirts about 9 months ago. I was not too happy with the quality of the shirt. The buttons broke after a few washing.

T M Lewin shirts are better than all the big Jermyn Street names. Tyrwhitt often use a cheap fused collar (which feels stiff and falls apart easily) and many of the shirts don't have a separate placket, so the pattern doesn't match properly across the front of the shirt. Thomas Pink shirts (like Tyrwhitt) are made using a mechanical process which forces excess material into the collar points, which causes the points to wear quickly as they are abraded when steam ironed. Lewin also use better quality cotton.
