I heartily recommend Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan. Like emerging from a time machine 100 years ago, ala "Somewhere in Time", which was filmed here, one basks in the splendor of a car-less environment, refined dining and an idyllic, tranquil world completely oblivious to the 21st century. Enjoy!

Denny Bud

Comments on Top Ten Summer Resorts

Ashford Castle is a must do! I've signed the guest book twice now and would go again and again. Just a short stretch of the legs to the quaint town of Cong
where they filmed the "Quiet Man" with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. 5* food and service! A game of snooker then entertainment in the dungeon bar! I can't say enough about this wonderful Irish Castle!

CJ

Comments on Top Ten Summer Resorts

PRICES, DEFINATELY!!!! But I disagree with the above comment; The Grand Hotel in Michigan is extremely windy, situated as it is in the confluence of the Great Lakes. Worse, the town boasts mostly fudge shops and pizza joints, frequented by "fudgies" from all over the midwest who are quite overweight and not exactly "fabulous," think bad shorts and stomachs spilling over them. When I went there with my family, a waitress in the town literally said, "You aren't from around here are you? I'm from Chicago and I can't take it anymore!"

CC

Comments on Top Ten Summer Resorts

The prices are outrageous. Compared to some fo the top 10 hotels its not old, but for the northwest it is. Its history is fun to read about - its only downfall is that the stuffed polar bear is gone and the waitstaff does not wear those adorable stiff white hats.

Kaydee

Comments on Top Ten Summer Resorts

Its not about price, its about what's available - its about dreaming!
