Fighter Jet Sold on eBay
A Chinese
businessman, Zhang Cheng, bought a Soviet-made MiG-21f
fighter jet fighter jet on eBay. He paid $25,000 to the seller, located in the US, though it is not yet clear
if he will even be able to import the plane into Beijing, let alone what it will cost. The plane is in excellent
condition and, according to the seller, was last flown in 1995. Cheng plans to use it to decorate his office,
stating that "I have the buying power and my company has an empty space where I can display the
plane."
Clearly, Cheng has a very large office, but I still want to know how he intends to get it inside.

Would you honestly fly a $25,000 Jet? I would not! Although one could argue that admission tickets to sit in the thing at $5/per would pay off right quick!

Good point. Perhaps he has an ulterior motive: wanting to create a tourist attraction!

Im having a hard time buying the story. Follow the link, and it says the article is only reporting on what another newspaper reported. They dont list what chinese newspaper generated the original report, nor the credibility of the chinese paper. It seems a far stretch for a multi million dollar MIG, even retired, to go for a pitance of $25k usd

Is a link to the story on BBC News more convincing: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4962466.stm

I bet it doesn't even fly. No plane can sit for that long without some serious maintenance done to it to make sure it's airworthy. For a plane like that, parts and personnel to work on it would be costly. Plus, 25 Grand may be actually cheap. I know people who drive cars that are worth more than that. A flyable jet just isn't that low priced.
