Chicago Bans Foie Gras
As Nick reported at Slashfood, the city of Chicago has decided to ban foie gras from being sold by
retailers and at restaurants. Any establishment or person who violates the ban will be fined $500, according to the New York Times. The legislature has been considering this ban
for some time now in the face of mounting concern over the ethics of force-feeding ducks until their livers reach 10
times the normal size. The ban, adopted by a vote of 48-to-1 will take effect in 90 days, so any Chicago residents
should take in their favorite dish at Rick Tramonto's Tru before it goes off
the menu.

idiots!!!...can't believe an entire city is now guilty of such idiosy...people are the ONLY thing that should be banned from consumption unless the ever-popular "plane crash stranded in the mountains menu" is necessary...shame on you Chicago...major city with modern everything throws it all away to opt for ignorence...btw cows are slain innoscently too

Is murder against the law? Is assault? Involuntary confinement? So why shouldn't foie gras be outlawed? We are all animals. Protecting animals from needless suffering will ultimately do the same for humans. A society that protects and values the lives of geese, cats, chickens, cows, and dogs will protect and value human lives, as well.

Although a good gesture, the argument for ducks can stand for all the other animals they are torturing and treating inhumanely. There must be an underlying reason for them to target ducks or it might be a slippery slope, what's next on the list?

Banning any food is just silly. When does it stop?

Hooray! The more people that become aware of this cruel, disgusting, barbaric practice, the better. Folks- educate yourselves about what you are putting into your body and ask yourself- is it worth it? There is no excuse for cruel foods when there are so many more humane choices available.

So, I just put on my fur coat, my allgator shoes and my baby seal hat, and I just read that Chicago is banning my favorite delicacy. Well that sucks. Now what am I going to do?! I guess I could order from France...or just go to the store and buy some Braunschweiger...or is that going to be banned now too?
