Uplands, Canada, Estate of the Day

Today's estate takes us north to Canada to this large home which has a record asking price of $25 million Canadian (around $21.8 million U.S.). The 2.4-acre Uplands waterfront estate was once owned by Frank Hertel who founded International Electronics Corp. The company fell apart and Hertel eventually fled to Venezuela to avoid paying more than $1 million in taxes. The home has 15,800 square foot of space that includes a variety of unique features including a conservatory that leads to an executive office with a heated slate floor and custom cherry built-in furniture. The home is wired for technology and has 19 television sets, smart lighting, video security and more controlled from a central media room. Touch panels throughout the home give you access to all sound, lighting and security settings. The property even has its own desalinization plant for watering the lawns. The master bedroom has a 50-inch plasma wall mounted television, gas fireplace, Kohler waterfall shower and his-and-her dressing closets. The Provencal blue and white gourmet kitchen has a six-burner Viking stove and grill, double ovens, built-in Miele cappuccino machine, and warming drawers. The home's indoor pool has a vaulted cedar roof.
