Lux List: Top Spring Sundresses

Sundresses are on the casual end of elegance. Largely sleeveless, they are perfect for garden parties, a lazy Sunday brunch or a picnic at the park. They should be comfortable and easy to wear, but classy at the same time; sundresses are not too casual and should look good with strappy sandals or thong flats. This spring, there are a couple of trends that are showing up in the sun. The biggest one is white. White is the must-have shade for spring dresses. It is flattering and cooling, simple enough to be paired with any other shade and bright enough to be eye catching. Large print patterns and stripes are popular, too, but are definitely coming in second to the simple white dress. Other trends to look out for are dresses with empire waists and fuller skirts, as well as easy-to-wear shirt dresses, all of which can be very figure flattering.

This white Vintage Lace Shirtdress from ABS by Allen Schwartz has a lace overlay over an empire chiffon slip. It is flowy and flirty without being too revealing. Price $230.

Marrying multiple trends is the Carmen Mark Valvo White Linen/Cotton Shirtdress. Sleveless and classy, it is great for just about any occasion. The flattering belted waist lets the dress skim curves without overemphasizing them. Price $310.

In an eye-catching bright blue silk with a big floral pattern, Marc Jacob's Rose Pop Silk Dress is great for making an entrance. The color will let you stand out outdoors, but a cute clutch and strappy sandals can take this into an evening out. Price $348.

Horizontal stripes might have the edge over vertical in the style section, but the way they are used to emphasize the hourglass silhouette in this lightly-boned red and white Regatta Dress from Anthropologie is perfection. Open wedges are a good match. Price $148.

Michael Kors' cream-colored Broderie Anglaise Sundress has fine eyelet details and a hint of color that makes it look sunkissed. The tiered skirt will swish plafully as you move and the fitted top is as flattering as the whole dress is romantic. Price $1495.

A netural color and demure print fit right into spring and can bring out the beauty of the wearer. Elie Tahari's fitted cotton Print Dress has an abstract print and a fitted bodice with a flowing skirt. Pair it with a blue purse to bring out the subtle floral print. Price $448.

A long dress can be just as playful as a shorter sundress. Anthropologie's long Aubrey Dress is white with black halter neck and sketched floral detail. Flat black sandals are the perfect accessory. Price $148.

Pink is never out in the Spring and this Pink Linen Dress from Lauren by Ralph Lauren is too classic to pass up. The pink is feminine and fun, sure to attract the right attention at parties - and probably a few flowers, too. Price $159.

A Strapless White Dress, like this one from Laundry by Shelli Segal, lets you tan while you are out enjoying the mild spring weather. A wrap can warm it up on chilly days and the white dress can be dressed up with any color accessories. Price $195.

Eyelet detail dresses up this casual, flirty Diane von Furstenberg Shirt Dress. The white dress has a full skirt and even has front pockets, so you don't need to carry a handbag for a day in the park. Price $465.

i am going to a 40th high reunion and love sundresses. Yours are pretty. But am I too old at age 57 to wear a sundress. I do not want to look ridiculout. Thank you.
