Rare 1937 Glenfiddich sold
Yours truly attended last night’s auction of the Glenfiddich Rare Collection 1937 that we mentioned earlier. A bottle of the world's oldest whisky was auctioned off for the first time at the hammer price of $20,000. It was a pretty intense auction with prices going back and forth, and a pretty feisty auctioneer (be sure to check back in a few days, as I will be posting a video of the auction).
I was fortunate enough to speak with some of the folks at Glenfiddich, and they uncorked the original cask from 1937 and allowed me to literally stick my nose in it. The bouquet of smells were amazing! The interesting thing is that when this cask left Scotland it was dry, and after being in the US for a few days, the difference of climate caused the whiskey to be released from the wood, creating a new puddle of whiskey.
