what you're paying a premium for here is the latest edition graphics card and cutting edge monitor. the LCD screens I was looking at the time were $1200+ for a good 1600x1200 LCD 20" at the time. Dells 24-inch 2405FPW LCD is now available for like $800 with the new 2407 model out.

there's a gigantic amount of cost you could cut out by downgrading to even a 20" LCD... the package is basically a boutique item, targeting a PR release.
